Banner Engineering Q2F fixed-field photoelectric sensors combine sharp cutoff sensing with a flat, low-profile housing for space-constrained installations.

EHBSA Series Capacitors

Introduction

Banner Engineering’s Q2F series is a family of fixed-field photoelectric sensors designed for embedded and space-constrained sensing tasks. Its technically notable feature is sharp-cutoff fixed-field sensing combined with a flat, low-profile housing, allowing the sensor to be integrated where conventional photoelectric sensor bodies may be impractical.

The series provides cutoff-distance options of 10 mm, 15 mm, 30 mm, and 45 mm, supporting short-range presence and absence verification with targets as small as 0.1 mm.

What it does

Q2F sensors use fixed-field photoelectric sensing to detect an object within a defined sensing field while using a 650 nm visible red LED light source. The available cutoff distances allow selection of a sensor suited to the required mounting position and detection range.

The sensors operate from a 10 VDC to 30 VDC supply and draw less than 20 mA, excluding load current. Their outputs are rated for 50 mA, with an output response time of 850 μs for both OFF-to-ON and ON-to-OFF transitions. Repeatability is specified at 125 μs.

An IP65 environmental rating and operating range of -25°C to +55°C support use in industrial environments where the sensor may be exposed to dust or water jets.

Applications

  • Presence or absence verification of small parts and features
  • Embedded sensing in compact industrial equipment
  • Detection tasks in low-clearance mechanisms
  • Part-position confirmation near machine tooling
  • Compact automation assemblies requiring short fixed sensing distances

Design considerations

The flat, low-profile housing is intended for installations with limited mechanical clearance. M2 and M3 mounting options should be considered during mechanical design, particularly where sensor alignment and the selected cutoff distance need to be maintained.

Designers can choose among M8, M12, and flying-lead connection options according to the available cable routing and connector strategy. The 10 VDC to 30 VDC supply range, 50 mA output rating, and specified OFF-state leakage and ON-state saturation characteristics should be checked against the requirements of the connected control input or load.

Select the 10 mm, 15 mm, 30 mm, or 45 mm cutoff option based on the required sensing geometry. For small-target verification, the stated 0.1 mm minimum target size provides an important starting point for assessing suitability.
