Synaptics Astra SL2610 is an AI-native embedded SoC processor family for multimodal consumer, enterprise, and industrial IoT applications.

EHBSA Series Capacitors

Introduction

Synaptics’ Astra SL2610 family is an AI-native embedded system-on-chip (SoC) platform for multimodal consumer, enterprise, and industrial IoT designs. The family combines Arm application processing, a Cortex-M52 system-manager domain, dedicated neural-processing resources, and graphics capability in a Linux- and Android-oriented SoC architecture.

Technically, the SL2610 line is notable for pairing a transformer-capable Torq T1 NPU rated at up to 1 TOPS with a RISC-V-based Coral NPU machine-learning core, alongside Arm Cortex-A55 CPU options and an Arm Mali-G31 3D GPU.

What it does

The SL2610 processors provide a compute platform for embedded systems that need general-purpose application processing, machine-learning acceleration, graphics, camera/display connectivity, and wired networking.

The application processor domain is available in single- or dual-core Arm Cortex-A55 configurations. An Arm Cortex-M52 domain with Helium acts as the system manager, while the Torq T1 NPU and Coral NPU ML core provide dedicated resources for AI and ML workloads. The integrated Mali-G31 GPU supports 3D graphics processing.

For system memory, the family supports DDR4, LPDDR4, and DDR3L, with inline ECC. MIPI-DSI and CSI interfaces support display and camera connections, including 2160p30 and HDR. Audio connectivity includes three TDM/I²S interfaces with 16 channels and support for up to eight digital microphones.

Networking support includes single- and dual-Gigabit Ethernet RGMII with Wake-on-LAN, plus 1588 PTP, TSN, and 802.1p/q VLAN tagging. The devices also provide two USB 2.0 interfaces, two SDIO 3.0 interfaces, four TWSI I²C interfaces, eight UARTs, five SPI interfaces, two xSPI interfaces, 99 GPIOs, a 12-bit ADC, and up to 12 smart PWM modules in the system-manager domain.

Applications

  • Edge-AI IoT equipment requiring local ML acceleration
  • Camera- and display-connected embedded systems
  • Networked industrial IoT nodes using Gigabit Ethernet, PTP, or TSN
  • Multimodal devices combining digital microphones, cameras, displays, and local processing
  • Embedded Linux or Android platforms requiring broad peripheral connectivity

Design considerations

The SL2610 family supports several external-memory options—DDR4, LPDDR4, and DDR3L—with inline ECC, allowing memory selection to be aligned with system requirements. Designs requiring deterministic or time-aware Ethernet behavior can use the listed 1588 PTP and TSN capabilities, while dual-GbE variants may be relevant where two RGMII Ethernet connections are needed.

Integration planning should account for the substantial I/O complement, including MIPI display and camera interfaces, multiple serial interfaces, SDIO, USB 2.0, audio ports, GPIO, ADC, and PWM resources. The supplied data does not specify package or mounting details, so those should be confirmed in the product documentation for board-level design.
