TMUXL27518 is a six-channel 1:2 bidirectional multiplexer-demultiplexer for low-voltage analog and digital signal routing.
Introduction
Texas Instruments’ TMUXL27518 is a six-channel, 1:2 bidirectional multiplexer-demultiplexer for routing low-voltage analog or digital signals. Operating from a 1.08 V to 1.95 V single supply, it is aimed at compact signal-switching functions in systems using low-voltage logic and interfaces. Its combination of six channels, shared control arrangement, high-impedance disable function, and powered-off protection makes it suited to designs that need to selectively connect or isolate multiple signal paths.
What it does
The TMUXL27518 provides six 1:2 switching channels, allowing each common signal path to be connected to one of two selectable paths. Signal routing is bidirectional, so the device can be used for either multiplexing or demultiplexing without assigning a fixed signal direction.
Two control pins manage the six multiplexers, with each control pin operating three channels. A separate enable input places all outputs into a high-impedance state, allowing the switch paths to be disconnected when required.
The device accepts 1.2 V logic-compatible control signals throughout its specified supply range. Its control inputs tolerate up to 3.6 V, while powered-off protection supports signal levels up to 3.6 V when VCC is at 0 V. The specified bandwidth is greater than 500 MHz, and switch capacitance is listed as 12 pF.
Applications
- Routing low-voltage analog signals between two selectable destinations
- Switching bidirectional digital signal paths
- SDIO interface routing
- SPI, qSPI, and eSPI signal multiplexing or demultiplexing
- Systems that need to isolate signal paths through a high-impedance enable state
- Multi-channel designs requiring powered-off signal isolation
Design considerations
The TMUXL27518 requires a 1.08 V to 1.95 V single supply, so the supply rail should be compatible with the low-voltage domain being switched. While the controls are compatible with 1.2 V logic across that supply range, their 3.6 V tolerance may simplify integration where control-domain voltages differ from the switch supply voltage.
The two-control architecture should also be considered during channel allocation: each control input governs three multiplexers rather than independently selecting every channel. Designs requiring all signal paths to be disconnected can use the enable input, which puts all outputs into a high-impedance state.
For high-speed routing, the specified bandwidth of more than 500 MHz and 12 pF switch capacitance are relevant system-level parameters. Signal-voltage conditions should also account for the device’s powered-off protection specification, which covers signals up to 3.6 V with VCC equal to 0 V. The stated operating-temperature range is −40°C to +125°C.
