Texas InstrumentsTCC-2026-09-09-tps62a20x-q1-tps62a2nx-q1-step-down-converters
Automotive-qualified, pin-to-pin compatible synchronous buck-converter family with 1 A to 4 A continuous-output options.
Introduction
Texas Instruments’ TPS62A20x-Q1 and TPS62A2Nx-Q1 series is an automotive-qualified family of synchronous step-down DC-DC converters designed for regulated low-voltage rails from a 2.75 V to 6 V input supply. The pin-to-pin compatible family provides continuous-output-current options from 1 A through 4 A, allowing a common converter platform to be scaled for different load requirements.
The devices combine constant on-time (COT) control with selectable internal compensation, adjustable switching frequency, and external synchronization. Qualification to AEC-Q100 automotive temperature grade 1 supports use across a −40°C to +125°C ambient operating range.
What it does
These converters reduce an input voltage to an adjustable regulated output between 0.4 V and 3.6 V. They use synchronous MOSFETs, with specified RDS(on) values of 23 mΩ and 15 mΩ, and support 1 A, 2 A, 3 A, or 4 A continuous-output variants.
The switching frequency can be set from 1.5 MHz to 4 MHz, enabling designs to select an operating point appropriate for their system requirements. Sixteen internal compensation settings are available, while external synchronization can coordinate the converter with a system clock or other switching regulators.
For output voltages of at least 0.5 V, the family specifies ±0.8% output-voltage accuracy in PWM mode. A maximum 30 ns minimum on-time at a 5 V input also supports operation where a relatively low output voltage is required from the available input range.
Applications
- Point-of-load power rails in automotive electronic modules
- Low-voltage digital and mixed-signal supply rails derived from 2.75 V to 6 V sources
- Designs requiring 1 A to 4 A regulated outputs within a shared package footprint
- Automotive systems that need synchronized or adjustable-frequency DC-DC conversion
- Compact power stages using a 2.1 mm × 2.1 mm WQFN package
Design considerations
The TPS62A20x-Q1/TPS62A2Nx-Q1 family is offered in a 2.1 mm × 2.1 mm WQFN package with wettable flanks. The shared pin-to-pin-compatible family structure may simplify designs that need to select among different continuous-current ratings.
Output-voltage and switching-frequency selection should be considered together with the 2.75 V to 6 V input range, 0.4 V to 3.6 V output range, and the specified minimum on-time. Designs can also use the available internal compensation choices and external synchronization capability as applicable to the intended power architecture.
