Introduction
The EPC33110 is a three-phase ePower™ Stage IC from EPC for compact, high-power-density motor-control designs. Built with GaN® IC technology, it combines the switching devices and supporting drive circuitry for three motor phases in a single package. Its 100 V absolute maximum input rating, 20 A continuous power-stage load-current specification at a junction temperature of +25°C, and PWM operation up to 3 MHz make it a technically notable integrated option for fast-switching three-phase power stages.
What it does
The device implements three half bridges for three-phase motor control. Each phase includes high-side and low-side eGaN FETs, an internal gate driver, and a level shifter, while bootstrap circuitry is also integrated into the IC.
Independent high-side and low-side control inputs support direct control of each switching device. The EPC33110 accepts 3.3 V or 5 V logic levels and supports duty-cycle operation from 0% through 100%, providing flexibility for PWM-based motor-control implementations.
The specified operating input voltage is 80 V, with a 100 V absolute maximum input voltage. Typical on-resistance is specified as 11.7 mΩ + 13 mΩ for the integrated power switches. A nominal 5 V bias supply is required.
Applications
Suitable applications that follow from its integrated three-phase power-stage function include:
- BLDC motor drives
- PMSM motor-control systems
- Compact three-phase inverter stages
- High-switching-frequency PWM motor controllers
- Space-constrained motor-control electronics requiring integrated gate-drive and power-switch functions
Design considerations
The EPC33110 is supplied in a 6.5 mm × 6 mm thermally enhanced QFN package with an exposed top and wettable flanks. Board layout and thermal design should account for the package’s power-stage role and the stated continuous-current specification.
Its independent high-side and low-side control inputs require suitable controller outputs, while the logic interface must be compatible with either 3.3 V or 5 V levels. Designs also need to provide the nominal 5 V bias supply and operate within the stated 80 V input-voltage condition, observing the 100 V absolute maximum rating.
For PWM implementations, the device supports switching frequencies up to 3 MHz and both 0% and 100% duty-cycle capability.
