Introduction
The Microchip Technology SY75707 is a compact differential-input clock buffer and voltage-level translator designed to distribute a clock from common differential signalling standards to two LVCMOS outputs. It combines support for HCSL, LVPECL, and LVDS inputs with translation between separate input and output supply domains, while targeting ultra-low additive jitter for clock-sensitive designs.
Operating at output frequencies from DC to 250 MHz, the device is supplied in an 8-pin VDFN package measuring 1.4 mm × 1.6 mm.
What it does
The SY75707 accepts a differential clock input supplied from 1.8 V to 3.3 V and produces two LVCMOS clock outputs operating from a 1.2 V to 1.8 V supply. This allows a differential clock source to be distributed into lower-voltage LVCMOS logic domains without requiring a separate voltage-level translation stage.
For timing-sensitive clock paths, the device specifies 32 fs typical additive jitter at 156.25 MHz, measured across a 12 kHz to 20 MHz integration band. Output-to-output skew is specified at less than 50 ps maximum, helping the two output paths remain closely aligned. Maximum propagation delay is 2300 ps.
Each LVCMOS output incorporates 50 Ω series resistance. This is intended to permit direct connection to standard 50 Ω transmission lines without adding external series resistors.
Applications
- Differential clock distribution to two LVCMOS loads
- Translation of HCSL, LVPECL, or LVDS clock inputs into 1.2 V to 1.8 V LVCMOS domains
- Clock paths requiring closely matched dual outputs
- Compact clock-buffer implementations where direct 50 Ω transmission-line connection is useful
- Systems operating across the specified −40 °C to +105 °C temperature range
Design considerations
The input and output supply rails are independent and have different supported ranges: 1.8 V to 3.3 V for the input domain and 1.2 V to 1.8 V for the output domain. Designs should therefore ensure that the selected differential input standard and connected LVCMOS receivers are compatible with their respective supply voltages.
The integrated 50 Ω output series resistance can simplify routing to standard 50 Ω transmission lines, but it should be considered as part of the complete interconnect and load arrangement. The small 1.4 mm × 1.6 mm, 8-pin VDFN package supports dense layouts, while also requiring appropriate footprint and assembly planning.
