Taoglas Stream II (STRM2) is a 3-in-1 adhesive-mount antenna family combining active GNSS L1 reception with two wideband cellular and Wi-Fi elements.
Introduction
Taoglas Stream II (STRM2) is a family of 3-in-1 adhesive-mount antenna assemblies for devices that need satellite positioning alongside cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity. The low-profile assembly combines an active GNSS L1 antenna with two wideband cellular/Wi-Fi antenna elements, reducing the number of separate external antennas required in a connected design.
Its combination of GNSS reception, coverage from 600 MHz to 8000 MHz, and an IP67 enclosure makes the STRM2 family relevant where a single externally mounted antenna assembly must support multiple radios in demanding indoor or outdoor installations.
What it does
Each Stream II assembly includes:
- One active GPS-GLONASS antenna for GNSS L1 reception
- Two antenna elements for 4G/5G cellular and Wi-Fi operation
- An integrated low-noise amplifier for satellite reception
The cellular and Wi-Fi elements cover 600 MHz to 8000 MHz and support technologies including 4G LTE, 5G NR, LTE-M, NB-IoT, Cat M, private LTE, and Wi-Fi 6/6E. The antenna system uses a 50 Ω impedance and is specified with efficiency up to 74.2%.
For GNSS operation, the antenna uses right-hand circular polarization (RHCP). The active GNSS section operates from a 1.8 V to 3.0 V input supply and has specified power consumption of 18 ±3 mA.
Applications
Potential uses for the Stream II antenna family include:
- Connected devices requiring GPS/GLONASS positioning and cellular backhaul
- Asset-tracking or telemetry equipment using LTE-M, NB-IoT, or Cat M connectivity
- Outdoor gateways combining 4G/5G and Wi-Fi links
- Private-LTE and Wi-Fi-enabled industrial equipment
- Vehicle- or enclosure-mounted systems that need an adhesive-mounted multiband antenna assembly
- Devices operating across cellular, Wi-Fi, and GNSS radio interfaces while minimizing the number of external antenna housings
Design considerations
The STRM2 is an adhesive-mount assembly measuring 202.2 mm × 68.2 mm × 12.9 mm. Designers should account for the mounting area and cable routing early in enclosure design, particularly because the supplied cable length is 3 m.
The assembly is rated IP67 and specified for operation from -40°C to +85°C, supporting installations exposed to dust, water ingress, and broad temperature variation. Its active GNSS element also requires a 1.8 V to 3.0 V supply, so the GNSS feed and power budget should be considered separately from the passive cellular/Wi-Fi paths.
The assemblies use RG-174 and TGC-200 cables with SMA(M) and RP-SMA(M) connectors. System radio interfaces should be checked for connector compatibility, including the distinction between standard SMA and reverse-polarity SMA connections.
