TEN 80WI DC/DC Converters
TRACO PowerTCC-2026-09-15-ten-80wi-dc-dc-converters
TRACO Power TEN 80WI is a series of 80 W DC/DC converter modules with 4:1 input ranges, up to 92% efficiency, and a shielded 2 in. x 1 in. metal package.
Introduction
TRACO Power’s TEN 80WI series is a family of 80 W DC/DC converter modules aimed at industrial power-conversion designs. The series combines wide 4:1 input-range options with up to 92% efficiency in a shielded 2 in. × 1 in. metal package, helping designers accommodate nominal 24 VDC or 48 VDC power systems within a compact module format.
What it does
TEN 80WI modules convert DC input power to regulated DC output power at ratings up to 80 W. Two input-range options are available: 9 VDC to 36 VDC for 24 VDC nominal systems, and 18 VDC to 75 VDC for 48 VDC nominal systems. The 4:1 input range can be useful where supply voltage varies significantly around its nominal value.
The series provides remote on/off control and output trim capability, allowing system-level control of the converter and adjustment of its output where required. Integrated protection covers short circuit, overvoltage, overtemperature, and undervoltage lockout conditions.
Specified efficiency is up to 92%. The converters are rated for operation from -40°C to +85°C, with operation without power derating from -40°C to +60°C under natural-convection conditions. They are certified to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1.
Applications
Potential uses for the TEN 80WI series include:
- Industrial control and automation equipment using 24 VDC or 48 VDC distribution rails
- Embedded systems requiring isolated DC/DC power conversion in a compact module footprint
- Equipment with variable DC bus voltage that benefits from a 4:1 input range
- Distributed-power architectures requiring remotely controlled power rails
- Industrial electronics operating in low- or high-temperature environments within the stated operating range
Design considerations
The 2 in. × 1 in. shielded metal package supports compact power-layout planning, but thermal conditions should be considered carefully. Full operation without derating is specified through +60°C with natural convection, while the stated operating range extends to +85°C.
Designers should select the input-range variant appropriate to the nominal system bus: 9–36 VDC for 24 VDC nominal supplies or 18–75 VDC for 48 VDC nominal supplies. Remote on/off and trim connections should also be incorporated where those functions are needed.
For emissions planning, EN 55032 Class A is specified with external components. The required external components and implementation details should therefore be reviewed in the datasheet.
