High-Current Pin Receptacles
Mill-MaxTCC-2026-09-16-high-current-pin-receptacles
Mill-Max high-current PCB pin receptacles provide up to 42 A current capability with beryllium copper contacts and open- or closed-bottom configurations.
Introduction
Mill-Max High-Current Pin Receptacles are PCB-mounted interconnect components designed for applications requiring substantial current capacity in a compact receptacle format. The family supports up to 42 A at a 30°C temperature rise and combines beryllium copper contacts with brass-alloy shells. Open- and closed-bottom versions, along with solder-mount and press-fit mounting options, provide flexibility for board-level interconnect designs.
What it does
These receptacles accept mating pins while providing a conductive, mechanically repeatable connection to a PCB. The contacts use beryllium copper and feature 30 µ" gold-over-nickel plating, while the brass-alloy shells use a tin-over-nickel finish.
Electrical contact resistance is specified at 10 mΩ maximum. The family has a 1,000-cycle minimum mechanical life and an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. In addition to the 42 A maximum current rating at a 30°C temperature rise, a maximum derated current of 33.60 A is specified.
The range is available with either an open-bottom or closed-bottom construction. Board attachment can be implemented through solder mounting or by press-fitting the receptacle into a non-plated through-hole (NPTH).
Applications
- High-current PCB-to-pin interconnects
- Board-level power connections
- Replaceable or serviceable power-module interfaces
- Systems needing press-fit or soldered receptacle connections
- PCB assemblies operating across a wide temperature range
Design considerations
Current capacity should be evaluated in the context of the stated 42 A rating at a 30°C temperature rise and the listed 33.60 A derated-current value. The specified 10 mΩ maximum contact resistance may also be relevant when assessing conduction losses in higher-current paths.
Mechanical and manufacturing choices include solder-mount and press-fit-into-NPTH versions. Designers should select the appropriate PCB hole style and assembly process for the chosen option. Open-bottom and closed-bottom configurations provide an additional mechanical and integration choice.
Material and plating details may matter where contact reliability and assembly compatibility are considerations: the contact is beryllium copper with gold-over-nickel plating, while the shell is brass alloy with tin-over-nickel plating. The -55°C to +125°C operating range and 1,000-cycle minimum mechanical-life specification should be considered against the expected environmental and mating-cycle requirements.
