Introduction
The Texas Instruments UCC35131EVM-118 is an evaluation module for the UCC35131-Q1 isolated bias-supply device. It is intended to help engineers assess an isolated DC/DC supply approach for powering SiC and IGBT gate drivers in automotive and industrial designs.
The board combines isolated bias-power generation with a compact evaluation platform for examining regulation, protection behavior, enable control, and power-good signaling. Its support for up to 2 W of bias power is relevant where isolated gate-driver rails are required without adding a larger auxiliary supply stage.
What it does
The UCC35131EVM-118 converts a 5.5 V to 20 V input into a regulated 15 V isolated output. It is specified for up to 133 mA output current and provides isolation greater than 5 kV RMS.
The module is designed around the UCC35131-Q1 and demonstrates an isolated bias supply for gate-driver use. An open-drain power-good signal is available for monitoring output status, while the ENA pin provides logic enable and ON/OFF control.
Integrated protection functions include undervoltage lockout, overvoltage lockout, short-circuit protection, output overvoltage protection, output undervoltage protection, and thermal shutdown. The stated operating-temperature range is −40 °C to +125 °C, and the underlying device is qualified for automotive applications under AEC-Q100.
Applications
Potential evaluation and development uses include:
- Isolated bias rails for SiC gate-driver circuits
- Isolated bias rails for IGBT gate-driver circuits
- Automotive power-electronics prototypes requiring a 15 V isolated gate-driver supply
- Industrial inverter, converter, or motor-drive development where isolated gate-driver bias power is needed
- Testing protection, enable, and power-good behavior in an isolated auxiliary-supply design
Design considerations
The module accepts a relatively broad 5.5 V to 20 V input range but produces a fixed 15 V output, so system input and gate-driver bias requirements should be checked before using the evaluation results in a final design.
Its 133 mA output-current rating and 2 W maximum bias-power capability define the available load budget. Designers evaluating multiple gate drivers or additional circuitry should account for the total bias load within these limits.
The board’s isolation rating, high-temperature operating range, and integrated fault protections are useful considerations for automotive and industrial environments. The open-drain power-good output and ENA control also require appropriate interface design in the host system, including the logic arrangement needed for status monitoring and enable control.
