UP Nexus WCL Advanced Edge AI Developer Board
AAEON UPTCC-2026-09-18-up-nexus-wcl-advanced-edge-ai-developer-board
Advanced edge AI developer board platform based on Intel Core Series 3 processors with up to 48GB LPDDR5 memory.
Introduction
The AAEON UP Nexus WCL is an edge AI developer-board platform built around Intel Core Series 3 processors. Supporting either an Intel Core 7 processor 350 or Intel Core 5 processor 320, it combines onboard LPDDR5 memory, UFS storage, dual 2.5GbE networking, display outputs, and M.2 expansion on a compact 101.6 mm × 101.6 mm board.
The platform is notable for pairing up to 48 GB of onboard LPDDR5 memory with a broad set of wired I/O and expansion interfaces, making it suited to development work that requires local compute, network connectivity, displays, and peripheral integration.
What it does
UP Nexus WCL provides a compact development platform for applications using Intel Core 7 processor 350 or Intel Core 5 processor 320. It supports up to 48 GB of onboard LPDDR5 memory and up to 256 GB of onboard UFS storage.
For connectivity, the board includes two 2.5GbE ports based on Intel I226-IT Ethernet controllers. Peripheral interfaces include two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port, a 40-pin GPIO header, and two serial headers configurable for RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485.
Display support comprises two HDMI 2.1 TMDS interfaces plus DisplayPort 1.4a through USB Type-C. The board also provides a combined microphone-input and line-output audio jack. Expansion is available through M.2 E-Key and M-Key sockets with PCIe Gen 4 connectivity.
Supported operating systems are Windows 11, Ubuntu 24.04, and Yocto 6.0.
Applications
- Edge AI software and hardware development
- Compact network-connected computing systems with dual 2.5GbE interfaces
- Multi-display development or visualization systems
- Industrial or embedded systems requiring GPIO and serial connectivity
- Systems integrating PCIe-based M.2 expansion modules
- Linux, Windows, or Yocto-based prototype platforms
Design considerations
The board uses a 101.6 mm × 101.6 mm form factor, so enclosure space, connector access, and mounting arrangements should be considered at the system level.
Power is supplied from a 12 V to 24 V DC input, with typical power consumption specified as 35 W. Designs should accommodate the selected DC input range and account for platform power requirements. AT and ATX power-supply options are listed.
Expansion planning is important because the available M.2 sockets serve different purposes: the 2230 E-Key socket supports CNVi, PCIe Gen 4 x1, USB 2.0, and UART, while the 2280 and 2242 M-Key sockets provide PCIe Gen 4 x2 and PCIe Gen 4 x1 respectively. Systems using external serial equipment should also account for the 10-pin headers used for RS-232/422/485 interfaces.
