Introduction
The Bosch Sensortec BMI423 Shuttle Board 3.0 is a compact evaluation PCB for the BMI423 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU). Designed for use with the Bosch Sensortec Application Board 3.x, it provides a direct platform for assessing the sensor’s combined 3D accelerometer and 3D gyroscope functions without designing a dedicated sensor PCB.
The board is part of the BMI423 evaluation ecosystem and carries the pre-mounted IMU in a 22 mm × 14 mm × 3.7 mm shuttle-board format.
What it does
The BMI423 Shuttle Board 3.0 plugs into a compatible Bosch Sensortec Application Board 3.x and exposes access to the BMI423 sensor pins through sockets. This arrangement supports evaluation of the sensor and its digital communications in an application-board-based development setup.
The onboard BMI423 integrates:
- A 3D accelerometer with a measurement range up to ±32 g
- A 3D gyroscope with a measurement range up to ±4000 dps
- I²C and SPI digital interfaces
The board operates from a 1.62 V to 3.63 V supply, while its digital I/O supply range is 1.08 V to 3.63 V. Its shuttle ID is 0x126.
Applications
The board can be used for development and evaluation activities including:
- Prototyping motion- and orientation-sensing systems
- Assessing accelerometer and gyroscope data in embedded designs
- Comparing I²C and SPI sensor-interface integration approaches
- Developing firmware for BMI423-based motion sensing
- Testing sensor operation with the Bosch Sensortec Application Board 3.x
Design considerations
The BMI423 Shuttle Board 3.0 is an evaluation accessory rather than a standalone general-purpose module: it is explicitly intended to plug into the Bosch Sensortec Application Board 3.x. Integration work should therefore account for the required application-board platform and its connector arrangement.
Designers evaluating the board should also ensure that both supply domains are compatible with their test setup. The sensor supply accepts 1.62 V to 3.63 V, while digital I/O can operate from 1.08 V to 3.63 V. Interface selection is limited to I²C or SPI, so the chosen host configuration should support the desired bus.
