Amphenol FCI Basics FitMate™ Low-Profile Connectors are modular, fine-pitch wire-to-board connector solutions for compact PCB spaces.
Introduction
Amphenol FCI Basics FitMate™ Low-Profile Connectors are a family of fine-pitch wire-to-board connectors intended for compact PCB assemblies. The range combines single-row, right-angle surface-mount board connectors with discrete-wire terminations, providing several pitch and wire-size options rather than a single fixed interconnect format.
The technically notable aspect of the FitMate range is its span from 1.00 mm to 2.00 mm pitch while supporting wire sizes from 30 AWG through 20 AWG and option-dependent current ratings up to 6.5 A. This allows designers to select an interconnect size that more closely matches both available board area and conductor requirements.
What it does
FitMate connectors join discrete wires to a PCB using right-angle SMT-mounted, single-row connectors. Secure mating retention and an active latch are included to help retain the mated connection.
Five pitch options are available:
- 1.00 mm, for 28 AWG to 30 AWG wire, with current ratings up to 2.5 A
- 1.20 mm, for 28 AWG to 30 AWG wire, with current ratings up to 1.5 A
- 1.30 mm, for 26 AWG to 28 AWG wire, with current ratings up to 3 A
- 1.50 mm, for 24 AWG to 28 AWG wire, with current ratings up to 3 A
- 2.00 mm, for 20 AWG to 26 AWG wire, with current ratings up to 6.5 A
Depending on the selected option, voltage ratings range from 30 V AC/DC to 250 V AC/DC. Initial dry-circuit contact resistance is specified at 20 mΩ maximum.
Applications
Potential uses that follow from the connector family’s compact, wire-to-board format include:
- Internal wiring connections in consumer electronic equipment
- Compact IoT device assemblies
- PCB-to-discrete-wire interfaces where right-angle board entry is required
- Small electronic assemblies that need a choice of fine-pitch connector and wire-gauge combinations
- Designs requiring a retained mated wire-to-board connection
Design considerations
Connector selection should be made at the individual pitch-option level rather than treating the family as electrically uniform. Supported wire gauge, current rating, voltage rating, insulation resistance, and durability differ across the 1.00 mm, 1.20 mm, 1.30 mm, 1.50 mm, and 2.00 mm versions.
The smallest-pitch 1.00 mm and 1.20 mm options support 28 AWG to 30 AWG conductors, while the 2.00 mm option supports larger 20 AWG to 26 AWG wire and carries the highest stated current rating, up to 6.5 A. Designers should also account for the single-row, right-angle SMT configuration in board layout and mechanical integration.
For applications involving repeated connection cycles, durability varies from 10 cycles for the 1.20 mm and 1.30 mm options to 50 cycles for the 1.00 mm and 1.50 mm options. The active latch and secure mating retention should likewise be considered as part of the enclosure and harness-access arrangement.
