Introduction

The Murata Electronics LBWA0ZZ2JM-EVB is an evaluation board for the Type 2JM embedded wireless MCU module. It provides a platform for assessing an ultra-compact, dual-band Wi-Fi 4 solution aimed at battery-powered IoT designs. The underlying module combines Qualcomm’s QCC730 micropower Wi-Fi chip with an Arm Cortex-M4 processor, bringing wireless connectivity and embedded processing into a single evaluated platform.

What it does

The board is intended to support evaluation of the Type 2JM module’s IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n connectivity across both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands. Its radio uses a single-input, single-output (SISO) configuration with 20MHz channel bandwidth and data-rate support up to MCS3.

Processing is provided by a 60MHz Arm Cortex-M4 core, alongside 1.5MB of RRAM and 640KB of SRAM. The platform also supports external flash memory for user-programmable memory expansion and execute-in-place (XiP) boot. This combination makes the evaluation board relevant for investigating both Wi-Fi operation and the embedded-memory approach of a Type 2JM-based design.

Applications

Potential uses for the evaluation board include:

  • Prototyping battery-powered IoT devices requiring 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Evaluating IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n interoperability in SISO wireless designs
  • Developing and testing Cortex-M4-based embedded Wi-Fi firmware
  • Exploring external-flash expansion and XiP boot configurations
  • Assessing the Type 2JM module for compact wireless MCU product concepts

Design considerations

The LBWA0ZZ2JM-EVB evaluates a dual-band Wi-Fi 4 module rather than a standalone radio, so system development can consider connectivity, processing, and memory together. Designs based on the evaluated module should account for its 20MHz channel bandwidth, SISO radio configuration, and data-rate support up to MCS3.

The onboard processing and memory resources are defined by the 60MHz Cortex-M4, 1.5MB RRAM, and 640KB SRAM. Where additional application storage or user-programmable memory is required, the module’s support for external flash and XiP boot is a relevant integration option.
