Introduction

The Qorvo QPQ5510 is a bandBoost™ Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) band-pass filter for 5 GHz Wi-Fi equipment operating across the U-NII 1–3 frequency range of 5170 MHz to 5835 MHz. It combines filtering and impedance matching in a compact 1.8 mm × 1.6 mm device, targeting RF signal paths where low in-band loss, out-of-band rejection, and reduced external passives are important.

What it does

The QPQ5510 passes Wi-Fi signals in the 5170 MHz to 5835 MHz U-NII 1–3 bands while providing high rejection in the U-NII 5–9 bands. Its specified insertion loss is 1.5 dB in the Wi-Fi U-NII 1–3 passband.

Integrated matching is a key feature of the device. By incorporating the matching function into the filter, the QPQ5510 can reduce the number of external passive components required around the RF path.

The filter supports average input power of up to +28 dBm and is specified for operation from -20 °C to +95 °C. Its BAW technology and small footprint make it suited to compact 5 GHz Wi-Fi radio designs.

Applications

  • 5 GHz Wi-Fi wireless routers
  • Wi-Fi access points
  • IoT devices with 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity
  • RF front ends requiring U-NII 1–3 band-pass filtering
  • Designs that need attenuation of signals in the U-NII 5–9 bands

Design considerations

The QPQ5510 is designed specifically for the 5170 MHz to 5835 MHz U-NII 1–3 range, so it should be selected where that passband aligns with the intended Wi-Fi radio architecture. Its high rejection in U-NII 5–9 bands can be relevant where isolation from those higher Wi-Fi bands is required.

The 1.8 mm × 1.6 mm package supports dense RF layouts, while integrated matching may simplify the surrounding matching network and reduce external passive count. Designers should also account for the stated +28 dBm maximum average input-power capability and the -20 °C to +95 °C operating-temperature range in the overall system design.
