UltiMate is a series of ultra-rugged, compact circular connectors with push-pull, quick-release, or ratchet locking options, environmental sealing, and 360° EMC shielding.
Introduction
Fischer Connectors’ UltiMate series is a range of compact, ultra-rugged circular connectors for connectivity in demanding environments. The series combines circular connector formats with push-pull, quick-release, or ratchet locking options, environmental sealing, and 360° EMC shielding by design. Its broad configuration range—including 2 to 42 contacts, multiple shell sizes, and power and data-capable options—makes UltiMate relevant where mechanical durability and protected interconnects must be balanced with compact packaging.
What it does
UltiMate connectors provide detachable electrical and data connections in equipment exposed to shock, vibration, corrosion, and harsh environmental conditions. Robust mechanical keying and blind-mating capability support connection where alignment may be difficult or visibility is limited.
The range is available in shell sizes 07, 08, 11, 13, 15, and 18, with plug diameters from 12 mm to 29 mm. Contact arrangements span from 2 to 42 contacts, with crimp, solder, and PCB contact termination options. Resin-sealed contact blocks are available within the series.
Electrical options support wire sizes from 9 AWG to 32 AWG, current ratings up to 26 A, and DC test voltages up to 3.7 kV. Depending on configuration, UltiMate connectors can support USB 3.2 through MP LV or USB-C interfaces, Ethernet, and Single Pair Ethernet.
Environmental options include IP68 through IP69 sealing, with the stated IP68 condition of 2 m for 24 hours, as well as hermetic versions. The series is specified for operation from -55°C to +135°C and offers salt-spray-mist resistance for 1,000 hours. Mating durability is rated up to 10,000 cycles.
Applications
- Ruggedized portable or vehicle-mounted equipment requiring compact circular interconnects
- Systems that need blind mating or rapid connection and release
- Outdoor and industrial equipment exposed to moisture, vibration, corrosion, or temperature extremes
- Mixed power, signal, Ethernet, Single Pair Ethernet, or USB 3.2 connections
- Equipment requiring sealed or hermetic connector configurations
- EMC-conscious installations needing circumferential cable-shield termination
Design considerations
Selection begins with the required locking behavior: push-pull, quick-release, and ratchet systems offer different approaches to retention and disconnection. Designers should also match shell size, contact count, contact termination, wire range, and required current capability to the application.
Environmental requirements should be considered at the configuration level. The series includes IP68 to IP69 and hermetic options, but these represent available sealing choices rather than a universal configuration. Likewise, brass and aluminum housing options allow mechanical and material selection to be aligned with system requirements.
For high-speed or networked equipment, verify the required protocol option—USB 3.2, Ethernet, or Single Pair Ethernet—and the applicable interface arrangement. The 360° EMC shielding design and resin-sealed contact block may also be important integration features where cable shielding and environmental protection are required.
