Introduction
Infineon Technologies’ TLV55624-1O is a XENSIV™ TMR-based magnetic switch designed for ultra-low-power magnetic wake-up sensing. Its omnipolar sensing behavior allows it to respond to either magnetic polarity, while duty-cycled operation enables very low average current consumption for single-cell battery-powered designs.
The device operates from a 1.1 V to 3.6 V supply and is specified across a -40°C to +85°C operating temperature range. Typical average supply current can be approximately 7 nA under the stated 1.55 V, 25°C, 1.2 Hz sampling conditions.
What it does
The TLV55624-1O monitors a magnetic field and changes its output state around defined magnetic thresholds. Its operating point is specified at ±1.0 mT and its release point at ±4.5 mT, with magnetic hysteresis specified from 1.0 mT to 5.0 mT. This hysteresis helps distinguish a magnetic transition from a return condition.
The sensor uses tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) technology and samples the magnetic field at rates from 0.4 Hz to 2.4 Hz. Its low-frequency duty-cycled approach is intended for wake-up sensing, where minimizing average system current can be more important than fast continuous field monitoring.
Dedicated control pins extend its operating behavior:
- LOCK supports locking the output state.
- FSLP supports forced sleep mode.
- The output has a typical on resistance of 2 Ω and typical off resistance of 80 Ω.
- Power-on time is specified as 2 ms typical, with a 100 ms maximum.
Applications
Potential uses that follow from the device’s omnipolar magnetic switching and low-power operating characteristics include:
- Magnetic wake-up detection in battery-powered electronics
- Open/close or position indication using an actuator magnet
- Low-duty-cycle magnetic state monitoring
- Single-cell battery-operated magnetic switches
- Magnetic-triggered sleep and wake control circuits
Design considerations
The TLV55624-1O is supplied in the PG-XQFN-7-1 package, so PCB land-pattern, assembly, and inspection requirements should be considered during layout planning.
Its 1.1 V to 3.6 V supply range makes supply-voltage compatibility an important part of integration. Although average current can be extremely low in duty-cycled operation, the device also has a typical 200 µA transient peak supply current in measure mode; the power source and local decoupling should accommodate these measurement events.
System behavior will depend on the selected magnetic geometry, field strength, and placement relative to the sensor. Designers should account for the specified operating and release points, hysteresis, and 0.4 Hz to 2.4 Hz sample-rate range when determining whether the response timing is appropriate for the intended magnetic event. The LOCK and FSLP pins should also be incorporated deliberately where output retention or externally controlled sleep operation is required.
