DFRobot Non-Contact Liquid Level Sensors
DFRobotTCC-2026-10-05-dfrobot-non-contact-liquid-level-sensors
DFRobot non-contact liquid level sensors use capacitive sensing, automatic calibration, and digital outputs to detect liquid through non-metallic container walls.
Introduction
DFRobot Non-Contact Liquid Level Sensors are capacitive sensors designed to detect the presence of liquid through non-metallic container walls rather than contacting the liquid directly. The family combines automatic sensitivity calibration with digital outputs for microcontroller-based systems, and includes a miniature SEN0715 version alongside an industrial SEN0716 version intended for harsher environments.
Both variants carry IP67 protection and use PC-V0 flame-retardant housing material, while their non-contact sensing approach supports plastic, glass, and ceramic containers.
What it does
These sensors detect liquid through the wall of a compatible non-metallic vessel. One-touch automatic calibration adjusts sensitivity for the installed container material and wall thickness, with intelligent sensitivity memory supporting subsequent operation.
The output is a high or low digital signal, allowing the sensor to indicate liquid presence to a microcontroller or other digital-input system.
The industrial version supports container walls up to 10 mm thick and can detect low-conductivity liquids with a specified response of 50 ms or less. Its automatic calibration takes 3 to 5 seconds.
The miniature version is intended for installations with limited space. It operates from a 3.3 V to 5 V supply, supports container walls up to 15 mm thick, and has a 6.1 mm housing thickness. Its stated detection accuracy is ±3 mm, with a 3 to 5 second automatic calibration time.
Applications
- Liquid-presence detection on plastic, glass, or ceramic containers
- Reservoir and tank monitoring where direct liquid contact is undesirable
- Compact liquid-level sensing in space-constrained equipment
- Digital liquid-detection inputs for microcontroller-controlled systems
- Installations requiring sensing through container walls up to 10 mm or 15 mm, depending on sensor version
Design considerations
The sensing surface must be installed against a non-metallic container wall, since the specified detection method is capacitive sensing through plastic, glass, or ceramic. Wall-thickness capability differs by model: the industrial sensor supports up to 10 mm, while the miniature sensor supports up to 15 mm.
Integration requires a suitable digital input for the high/low output. The miniature version specifies a 3.3 V to 5 V supply range; verify supply and interface requirements for the selected version. Automatic calibration is an installation step and is specified to take 3 to 5 seconds. For protected installations, both versions are specified with IP67-rated protection.
