LittelfuseTCC-2026-10-05-ak6-fb-axial-leaded-tvs-diodes
Littelfuse AK6-FB axial-leaded TVS diodes provide 6 kA surge protection for AC and DC line-protection applications with ultra-low clamping characteristics.
Introduction
Littelfuse AK6-FB axial-leaded TVS diodes are high-current transient-voltage-suppression devices for severe surge-test environments in AC and DC line-protection designs. The family combines a 6 kA current rating with Controlled Foldback technology and ultra-low clamping characteristics, offering protection options across a 240 V to 700 V reverse-standoff-voltage range.
What it does
The AK6-FB family is intended to limit transient overvoltage events on AC or DC power lines. Its glass-passivated junction construction and Controlled Foldback technology are designed for line-protection applications where substantial surge capability is required.
Available voltage selections span 240 V to 700 V reverse standoff voltage, with maximum breakdown voltages ranging from 304 V to 825 V. Maximum reverse leakage current is specified as 10 μA, measured with a 10 mA test current. The devices also provide ESD protection rated to IEC 61000-4-2 at 15 kV air discharge and 8 kV contact discharge.
Applications
- AC power-line transient protection
- DC line-protection circuits
- Surge-protection stages for equipment exposed to severe surge testing
- Protection circuits requiring axial-leaded TVS components
- Designs requiring ESD protection on higher-voltage lines
Design considerations
The AK6-FB devices use an axial-leaded package, which may suit through-hole or leaded-component protection assemblies. They support both reflow and wave soldering, providing flexibility for compatible manufacturing processes.
Voltage selection is a primary integration consideration: the chosen device’s reverse standoff voltage should align with the protected line’s normal operating voltage, while its breakdown-voltage range and clamping behavior should be considered against the system’s expected transient conditions. The 6 kA current rating indicates that these parts target demanding surge environments, but protection-circuit design should also account for the associated line conditions and system-level requirements.
Specified operating junction temperature extends from -55 °C to +125 °C, while storage temperature is rated from -55 °C to +150 °C. The maximum temperature coefficient is 0.1 %/°C. The parts are lead-free and RoHS compliant.
