Introduction
The Antenova Garbei SRCI114 is a compact surface-mount ceramic loop antenna for sub-GHz ISM-band wireless designs. Part of Antenova’s Designed for Integration (DFI) approach, it supports operation in the European 863–870 MHz band and the North American 902–928 MHz band, allowing a single antenna option to address regional 868 MHz and 915 MHz deployments through appropriate matching.
What it does
The SRCI114 provides a 50 Ω antenna solution for PCB-integrated wireless products using the 868 MHz or 915 MHz ISM bands. It can be configured for single-band or dual-band matching across its supported frequency ranges.
The ceramic antenna uses linear polarization and is supplied in a small 5.2 mm × 3.7 mm × 0.7 mm surface-mount package. Antenova specifies peak gain of 3.3 dBi at 868 MHz and 4.2 dBi at 915 MHz, with average efficiencies of 71.9% and 80.7% respectively.
The stated operating temperature range of −40°C to +125°C makes it suitable for designs expected to operate across wide environmental temperature conditions.
Applications
Potential uses for the SRCI114 include:
- 868 MHz and 915 MHz ISM-band sensor nodes
- LPWAN devices using LoRa or Sigfox technologies
- Zigbee-enabled sub-GHz wireless products
- Compact remote-monitoring and telemetry equipment
- Regional wireless products requiring European and North American band support
Design considerations
Although the antenna package itself is compact, PCB integration requires considerably more board area than the component dimensions alone suggest. The specified footprint is 20.0 mm × 9.8 mm, and the antenna requires both a ground plane and a dedicated clearance area.
RF layout and matching are therefore central to implementation. The SRCI114 has a nominal 50 Ω impedance, while its stated maximum return loss and VSWR differ between the 868 MHz and 915 MHz bands. Designs intended for one region may use single-band matching, while products supporting both frequency ranges need a dual-band matching approach.
The antenna is surface mounted and weighs less than 1.5 g, which can support compact PCB assemblies, but the required clearance and ground-plane arrangement should be reserved early in the board layout.
