India’s electric vehicle market is moving quickly, and two major players are teaming up to give it a serious push. Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to co-develop EV platforms that are ready for production and tailored to Indian conditions.
This isn’t a light-touch partnership. It’s a full-scale engineering collaboration. Tata Elxsi brings deep experience in embedded systems, validation, and integration. Infineon contributes its proven semiconductor portfolio, including silicon carbide power devices and high-performance microcontrollers. Together, they aim to build the systems that sit at the core of an EV, not just the supporting components.
They’ll be focusing on real-world challenges like high-voltage inverters, scalable battery management, onboard chargers, and thermal systems. These are critical to EV performance, safety, and reliability. The partnership is also looking ahead to sectors beyond road vehicles, with potential applications in eVTOL aircraft and electric construction or off-highway equipment.
According to Tata Elxsi’s Nambi Ganesh, aligning at the platform level will speed up development cycles and reduce time to market. Infineon’s Kenneth Lim added that the aim is to develop technology that meets the performance and safety demands of Indian manufacturers without pricing them out of reach.
Both companies are building to meet ISO 26262 and ASIL-D functional safety standards. That means OEMs can expect systems that meet international automotive-grade requirements while being cost-competitive and scalable.
