Bourns has released the Riedon™ PF2270 Series, a new line of power film resistors designed for high-heat, high-performance environments such as industrial motor drives, power conversion systems, and battery energy storage. Housed in a compact TO-227 package, these resistors offer impressive thermal performance and power dissipation ratings up to 300 W with a heatsink.
The PF2270 Series features a thick film resistive element mounted to an alumina ceramic substrate, enclosed in a thermally efficient epoxy case. This configuration allows continuous operation at ambient temperatures up to +175 °C and enables high energy pulse handling. With thermal resistance as low as 1.25 °C/W, the device is capable of dissipating large amounts of energy while maintaining mechanical stability.
Bourns’ design targets mission-critical applications that demand reliable operation under thermal stress. These include industrial motor control systems, DC link discharge, high-voltage power supplies, and battery management infrastructure.
The series covers a wide resistance range from 100 mΩ to 100 kΩ, and is available in 1% and 5% tolerance options. Rated for 300 W at 25 °C with a heatsink and 15 W in free air, the PF2270 offers excellent pulse performance with a maximum working voltage of 1500 V and overload voltage of up to 2000 V.
The resistors are also designed with a low inductance construction, making them well-suited for high-frequency circuits where transient response and current limiting are critical. The robust build ensures long-term performance and stability in high-power switching applications.
With a footprint of just 26 x 16.3 mm and a 7.3 mm thickness, the TO-227 package supports high-density designs where board space is limited. All models in the PF2270 series are RoHS compliant and available now through Bourns’ authorised distribution partners.
The PF2270 Series extends Bourns’ high-power resistor offering with a compact, thermally efficient solution built for demanding environments. With strong pulse handling, wide resistance options, and a reliable TO-227 format, it’s a practical choice for engineers designing in high-temperature, high-density applications.
