KYOCERA AVX has introduced the 9288-000 Series, a new line of hermaphroditic connectors that support both wire-to-wire (WTW) and wire-to-board (WTB) terminations. Built for industrial and lighting applications, these connectors are designed for tool-free in-field deployment and a reduced bill of materials.
Identical Halves, Fewer Headaches
What sets this series apart is its hermaphroditic construction. Two identical connector halves mate together for wire-to-wire connections, allowing a single part number to serve both ends of the link. For wire-to-board setups, one of these halves can be paired with a surface-mount counterpart.
This approach simplifies sourcing and logistics, especially in applications where modularity and quick replacement are critical. It also cuts down on assembly time and eliminates the need for dedicated tooling.
Poke-Home Simplicity Meets Mechanical Strength
The 9288-000 Series uses KYOCERA AVX’s poke-home contact system, which allows engineers or installers to terminate wires without any crimp tools or soldering. Wires are stripped and inserted by hand. Removal is just as straightforward, twist and pull.
Each connector is built with glass-filled PBT insulation in either white or orange, and features a plastic latch that provides mechanical retention. Internally, the contacts are made from phosphor bronze and plated with lead-free tin over nickel to ensure good conductivity and long-term durability.
Ratings and Specs
The series is currently available in 2 to 4 positions, with a 5mm pitch. It supports both solid and stranded 16–18AWG wire, and offers the following ratings:
- 7A (16AWG) / 6A (18AWG)
- 600VACRMS or DC equivalent
- 20 mating cycles
- 3 wire replacement cycles
- -40°C to +125°C operating range
The connectors are UL approved, RoHS compliant, and available in both bulk and tape-and-reel packaging for production environments.
Designed for Real-World Installation
These connectors are well suited to LED lighting installations, HVAC systems, industrial equipment, and any scenario where fast deployment, field serviceability, and connector reliability matter.
“The new 9288-000 Series connectors leverage our field-proven poke-home contact technology to enable quick, easy, and tool-free in-field termination,” said Perrin Hardee, Product Marketing Manager at KYOCERA AVX. “They also feature a locking mechanism to further improve reliability, and WTW versions simplify BOMs since they’re comprised of two of the same part number.”
The 9288-000 Series is available now through authorised KYOCERA AVX distributors.
