Silicon Labs FG23L SoC Brings Low-Cost Sub-GHz IoT Connectivity

Uploaded image Silicon Labs has expanded its Series 2 portfolio with the FG23L, a Sub-GHz wireless SoC designed to combine long-range connectivity, robust security, and low system cost. Developer kits are already available, with full production release set for September 30.

Ross Sabolcik, Senior Vice President of IoT Products at Silicon Labs, said “The FG23L extends Silicon Labs’ proven Sub-GHz leadership into the high-volume, cost-sensitive segment of the market. By delivering the best-in-class combination of range, efficiency, and security at the industry’s most competitive price-performance, we’re enabling customers to bring more connected devices to market faster and at lower cost than ever before.”

Long-Range Connectivity Without Compromise

The FG23L is designed for IoT systems where reliable Sub-GHz connectivity, battery life, and affordability all matter. With a link budget of ~146 dB, the device achieves up to twice the range of comparable solutions. Combined with +20 dBm transmit power, high receiver sensitivity, and ultra-low energy consumption, it enables deployments that can last more than 10 years on a single battery.

This makes the part especially suited to large-scale installations in industrial automation, smart city infrastructure, building controls, and agricultural IoT, where replacement and maintenance costs dominate long-term planning.

Performance and Security Features

At the core of the FG23L is a 78 MHz Arm Cortex-M33, paired with a dual-core wireless architecture. Integrated Secure Vault™ Mid technology helps protect against evolving threats while keeping costs in line with high-volume deployments. Developers also gain access to 23 GPIOs, a rich set of peripherals, and streamlined design tools such as Simplicity Studio 5 and the Radio Configurator.

The result is a platform that balances compute performance, energy efficiency, and affordability, making it practical for cost-sensitive devices like electronic shelf labels (ESLs) as well as higher-end industrial sensors.

Migration and Development Support

For customers needing more memory, higher performance, or different power profiles, the FG23L shares a migration path with the wider Series 2 family. This allows scaling between cost-optimized and feature-rich Sub-GHz parts without major redesigns.

To speed development, Silicon Labs has released FG23L Pro Kits, available now through distribution partners and Silicon Labs. Full product details are listed on the FG23L product page and the Series 2 portfolio overview.

Availability

The FG23L wireless SoC will be generally available on September 30. Developer kits are available now.
