JAE Expands MX77 Automotive Connector Series with New Low-Profile Options



Uploaded image JAE has expanded its MX77 Series of automotive board-to-cable connectors with two new models, the MX77B and MX77C. Designed for automotive electronic control units (ECUs), battery management systems (BMS), and other in-vehicle electronics, the new connectors extend the existing MX77 family with lower-profile mounting options for space-constrained designs.

According to JAE, the additional connectors address the growing demand for smaller automotive ECUs as vehicle electrification increases the number of onboard electronic systems.

Lower Profile for Compact ECU Designs

The MX77B features a single-row mid-mount structure that reduces the pin header mounting height by approximately 30% compared to the existing MX77A. The connector has a mounting height of 6.6 mm above the PCB and a mated height of 6.72 mm, making it suitable for next-generation ECUs and battery management systems where overall device thickness must be minimized.

The MX77B also uses a reverse-mating configuration, with the lock lever positioned opposite to the MX77A, MX77C and MX77D connectors.

All-SMT Connector for Flexible PCB Layouts

The MX77C uses an all-SMT mounting design for both the contacts and hold-downs, allowing the reverse side of the PCB to be used for additional components.

The connector mates with the existing MX77A socket connector and uses the same socket terminals, helping maintain compatibility with existing designs while providing greater PCB layout flexibility.

MX77 Series Applications

The MX77B and MX77C feature a 0.4 mm terminal size and support ISO Thin Wall 0.35 sq automotive wire across all cavities. Both connectors have been tested to automotive specifications.

The series is intended for automotive body ECUs, battery management systems, and other in-vehicle electronic equipment.

Availability

The MX77B and MX77C connectors are now in mass production.
