TDK has added two programmable isolated DC/DC converters to its TDK-Lambda range. The new DDSM models are rated at 120 W and 240 W and mount directly onto a DIN rail, with voltage settings and operating data available from the front panel or remotely over USB.
A key feature of the DDSM series is the amount of freedom it gives designers over the conversion ratio. Inputs can range from 10.8 V to 52.8 V, while the output can be set anywhere between 4.7 V and 57 V. That means a single unit can handle both step-up and step-down conversion across a range of industrial power requirements.
One Converter for Different Supply Requirements
TDK sees the broad voltage range being used in several ways. A DDSM converter can raise the voltage before a long cable run, for example, or generate a separate isolated supply for equipment with a different operating voltage. The company also lists isolated Power-over-Ethernet supplies among the potential uses.
The 120 W version supplies a nominal output current of 5 A, rising to 10 A for the 240 W model. Efficiency reaches 93% under standard operating conditions.
Programming and Monitoring from the Front Panel or USB
Operating parameters can be set directly from the converter using three front-panel push buttons and a digital display. The display also reports system alarms, status information and the current device settings.
For remote access, TDK-Lambda has added Modbus communication over USB. Used with the company's PowerCMC control and monitoring centre, this allows the DDSM converters to be configured and monitored from a connected system in real time.
A 24 V/1 A DC-OK signal is also accessible from the front panel for external status monitoring.
Both power versions use the same 40.0 × 116.6 × 115.0 mm enclosure and weigh 500 g. The series is intended for DIN-rail installation in factory automation, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, renewable energy systems, telecommunications and test and measurement equipment. The DDSM series carries IEC/EN/UL/CSA 61010 and 62368 safety certifications and meets EN 55032-B emissions requirements.
