Littelfuse has refreshed its PTS647 Series surface-mount tactile switches with several useful updates aimed at making them more durable, better sealed, and much quieter. These upgrades are a direct response to real-world feedback, particularly from audio product designers dealing with space constraints and acoustic sensitivity.
The switch itself is compact, just 4.5 × 4.5 mm, and already a go-to option for engineers working with dense PCB layouts. The latest design changes help reduce unwanted noise during operation and extend switch life, making them even more reliable in applications where precision and quiet feedback matter.
One of the key improvements is a redesigned internal actuator that stops it from rotating. This tweak helps cut down on the small vibrations that can cause interference in audio equipment. Littelfuse also added a dome-sealing tape, which helps keep dust out and adds mechanical strength – ideal for equipment that sees regular use or exposure to the elements.
Engineers can now choose from three actuation forces (1.0 N, 1.8 N, and 2.5 N), with heights starting at just 3.8 mm. Depending on the configuration, the switches are rated for up to 500,000 actuations. Versions with the new low-noise feature are marked with an “N” in the part number, so it’s easy to tell them apart from legacy models.
Max Shi, Global Product Manager for tactile switches at Littelfuse, said “The new PTS647 variants complement our existing range of miniature tactile switches, featuring noise reduction and extended lifecycles. They broaden our portfolio’s versatility, particularly for high-performance, noise-sensitive environments such as audio equipment and precision instruments.
4.5 × 4.5 mm footprint for space-limited designs
Low-profile options starting at 3.8 mm
Up to 500,000 actuations depending on configuration
Crisp, consistent tactile feel
Low-noise operation to limit unwanted vibration
Added dust protection via dome-sealing tape
Surface-mount format for automated production lines
The improved PTS647 Series is a good fit for designs where noise, space, and responsiveness are all critical:
Audio equipment, headsets, and compact cameras
Telecom hardware and access control units
Medical monitoring and diagnostic tools that require quiet input
The legacy PTS647 models remain available for engineers who want to stick with existing specifications, while the updated versions offer a drop-in upgrade path. For applications that need full environmental sealing or extra ruggedness, Littelfuse also offers the KSC Series.
Parts are shipping now in tape-and-reel format, with quantities between 1,000 and 2,000 units. Samples can be requested through Littelfuse’s authorised distributor network.
For engineers looking to cut down switch noise without sacrificing feel or footprint, the new PTS647 variants offer a practical solution. They’re easy to design in, built for long-term use, and backed by customer-driven improvements.
