KYOCERA AVX has released a new line of Single-Pair Ethernet (SPE) connectors designed to simplify network architectures and save space in next-gen industrial systems. The 6780-000 Series is engineered for IP20-rated environments and includes both connectors and pre-assembled SPE cables to support industrial automation, robotics, sensor networks, and smart grid infrastructure.
Unlike traditional RJ45 connectors that require multiple wire pairs and separate power lines, the new T1 Industrial SPE connectors from KYOCERA AVX use just a single twisted pair for both data and power. Thanks to Power over Data Line (PoDL) technology, these connectors reduce cabling complexity while still enabling fast and continuous communication between control systems and endpoint devices.
The series supports data rates of 1Gb/s up to 40 metres and 10Mb/s up to 1,000 metres, all within a compact form factor that occupies 45% less board space than an RJ45. This reduction in size and wiring bulk makes them a compelling option for space-constrained industrial applications.
In addition to space savings, the 6780-000 Series is built to reduce system-level complexity. By removing the need for gateways, analog interfaces, and legacy bus systems, KYOCERA AVX enables streamlined network designs with fewer points of failure. The result is improved uptime, reduced maintenance, and greater system reliability.
Each connector meets IEC 63171-6 and IEEE 802.3 standards and features RoHS compliance, surface-mount solder tails for better data integrity, and high-reliability IDC (insulation displacement contact) technology for fast, automated cable assembly.
Available cable options include standard lengths of 1, 3, 5, and 10 metres, with custom lengths also supported. The connectors are rated for 4A at 60°C, operate at 60VDC, and offer high durability across 1,000 mating cycles in temperatures from –40°C to +85°C.
This release is part of KYOCERA AVX’s broader push to support the growing SPE ecosystem, as a member of the Single-Pair Ethernet Industrial Partner Network. Applications range from industrial control and monitoring to traffic systems, smart cities, and IIoT sensor grids—where reduced wiring and standardised Ethernet protocols are key to long-term scalability.
