Littelfuse IX3407B Gate Driver Shrinks Isolation Circuitry and Speeds Switching



Uploaded image Engineers working on high-voltage power stages often end up piecing together drivers, optocouplers, and transformers just to get clean gate signals across an isolation barrier. It works, but it takes up space and can slow things down.

The new Littelfuse IX3407B makes that job a lot easier. It combines a single-channel gate driver with built-in 2.5 kV capacitive isolation, so there’s no need for bulky external components. For many teams, this means fewer parts to qualify, a simpler layout, and better signal integrity from control logic to power switch.

Drive Capability and Speed

The IX3407B can source and sink up to 7 A peak through separate pins, giving designers freedom to fine-tune turn-on and turn-off behaviour. Its fast propagation delay and 150 kV/µs CMTI rating keep switching clean even in noisy factory or inverter environments. In practice, this allows higher switching frequencies, smaller magnetics, and better overall efficiency.

Integrated Protection Features

Active Shutdown and Under-Voltage Lockout come as standard, reducing the risk of unwanted turn-on events during faults. Because the isolation is already part of the driver, long-term reliability improves, and layout becomes easier, with fewer high-voltage creepage considerations.

Broad Application Range

With an output supply range from 13 V to 35 V, the device works with both Si and SiC MOSFETs and fast-switching IGBTs. It is well-suited for solar inverters, battery energy storage, AC and BLDC motor drives, high-voltage DC/DC converters, totem-pole PFC stages, and UPS systems.

By combining strong gate drive, fast switching performance, and isolation in a single SOIC-8 wide-body package, the IX3407B gives engineers a compact way to build safer, faster, and more efficient power systems.
