XP Power HRF15 adds digital control for high voltage systems

Uploaded image Electron microscopy, semiconductor inspection and mass spectrometry depend on high voltage sources that deliver absolute stability. Even small variations in voltage ripple or drift can degrade resolution and repeatability in advanced imaging and analytical equipment. Many existing high voltage converters rely on analogue tuning and manual setup, which increases integration effort and makes remote monitoring difficult. As automation expands across laboratories and fab environments, designers need programmable devices that maintain performance while simplifying control.

What the Product Does

XP Power has introduced a digital version of its HRF15 series of 15 W high voltage DC DC converters, adding output voltage and current programmability through PMBus over I2C. This enables real time control, automated calibration and remote diagnostics in precision instrumentation. Compared with the analogue HRF15 units launched earlier this year, the addition of a digital interface supports faster system setup and helps users maintain stable operation without constant physical access.

Key Technical Details

The HRF15 digital models provide single output versions at 10 kV, 12 kV or 15 kV from a 24 V DC input. Designers can adjust both voltage and current from zero to full scale to support Constant Voltage and Constant Current operation across varying loads. Ripple performance is extremely low, specified down to 0.001 percent or 10 parts per million. Long term stability remains in the same range at 10 ppm per hour which is important for repeatability of measurement.

The converters achieve 0.001 percent line and load regulation, helping sensitive applications maintain accuracy even when input supplies or load conditions fluctuate. A temperature coefficient of 25 ppm per degree Celsius reduces environmental impact on performance during extended operation.

Integration and Design Considerations

A compact housing measuring 33 by 72.4 by 161 millimetres allows integration into tightly packed instruments where internal space is at a premium. Monitoring capabilities expose supply status and fault conditions over the digital interface, allowing predictive maintenance and protecting expensive analysis hardware. Datastream conversion and diagnostics convert internal readings into actions operators can take quickly. Multi unit synchronisation simplifies power architecture scaling for larger systems.

Safety approvals to UL61010 and UL62368 support industrial and laboratory deployment. With a three year standard warranty, the converters are available from XP Power or Avnet Abacus.

Why It Matters

By combining high voltage precision with digital control and monitoring, XP Power gives engineers greater visibility and faster configuration in noise sensitive systems. The HRF15 digital series can help reduce setup effort and improve equipment uptime while maintaining the strict stability required in analytical and semiconductor inspection applications.
