Bourns has introduced the PST10 Series, a new family of 10 mm incremental potentiometers for rotary position sensing in industrial controls, robotics, automation equipment and other compact designs.
The PST10 Series uses contact sensing with a hollow-shaft configuration and is available for horizontal or vertical PCB mounting. Standard resistance values range from 1 kΩ to 5 MΩ, with a linear taper and electrical travel of 200° ±20°.
Its 10 mm format is intended for equipment where board space and the mechanical space around a rotary control are limited. Bourns offers several hollow-shaft styles, giving designers different options for integrating the potentiometer with the equipment it is monitoring or controlling.
Hollow-Shaft Design for Compact Equipment
The PST10 Series is offered as the horizontal PST10H and vertical PST10V, with a mounting hole pin supporting mechanical alignment and PCB integration.
Depending on the version, hollow-shaft options include hexagonal, arrow and cross styles. Mechanical travel is 235° ±10°, while the electrical travel of 200° ±20° defines the portion of rotation over which the potentiometer produces its specified resistance change.
Bourns rates the PST10 for 10,000 rotational cycles and operation from -10°C to +70°C. The series has an IP40 rating and a rotational torque specification of 10 to 100 gf/cm.
Electrically, the potentiometers are rated at 0.15 W with a contact rating of 10 mA at 5 VDC. Resistance tolerance is ±20% from 1 kΩ through 1 MΩ and ±30% for values above 1 MΩ through 5 MΩ.
Position Feedback for Industrial Controls and Automation
Bourns is targeting the PST10 Series at industrial controls, robotics, factory automation equipment, motion control systems, HMIs, commercial equipment and other applications requiring analog rotary position feedback.
The horizontal and vertical mounting configurations, together with the different hollow-shaft options, give designers several ways to fit the potentiometer into equipment where PCB layout and mechanical packaging are constrained.
The Bourns PST10 Series is available now in horizontal and vertical configurations.
