Sensirion Launches SEN68 and SEN69C Multi-Parameter Air Quality Sensors

Uploaded image Sensirion has launched the SEN68 and SEN69C, two compact sensor modules that bring multiple indoor air quality measurements into a single platform.

The modules measure particulate matter, relative humidity and temperature, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and formaldehyde (HCHO), with the SEN69C adding CO₂ measurement. Across the available measurements, Sensirion says the modules can monitor up to ten environmental parameters.

Central to the smaller design is Sensirion's new SPS6x, a miniaturized MEMS-based particulate matter sensing component. By reducing the space required for PM measurement, Sensirion has been able to integrate it alongside the other sensing technologies within the SEN68 and SEN69C.

Multiple Air Quality Measurements in One Module

Indoor air quality systems often need to monitor several different types of pollutants alongside environmental conditions. The SEN68 and SEN69C bring these measurements together rather than requiring separate modules for each sensing function.

Alongside particulate matter, humidity and temperature, both modules monitor VOCs, NOx and HCHO. The SEN69C extends the platform with CO₂ sensing for applications requiring carbon dioxide measurement as part of the same air quality system.

Sensirion has also integrated onboard algorithms for processing the different sensor measurements. The combination is aimed at indoor air quality monitors, smart buildings, room sensors and air purifiers, as well as applications such as vape detection.

Miniaturized MEMS Particulate Matter Sensing

The SPS6x particulate matter sensor is a key part of the new module architecture. Sensirion describes it as a miniaturized MEMS-based PM sensing component developed to provide greater flexibility where available space limits the size of an air quality monitoring system.

Integrating the PM sensor with the other sensing elements gives equipment manufacturers a single module for monitoring several air quality parameters while reducing the amount of separate sensing hardware that needs to be incorporated into the design.

Sensirion is also offering the SEK-SEN69C Evaluation Kit for evaluating both the SEN69C and SEN68. It provides access to the modules' measurements and onboard algorithms and includes a SEN69C, adapter cable, jumper wire set and Qwiic adapter cable. A SEK-SensorBridge is required for operation.

The SEN68, SEN69C and SEK-SEN69C Evaluation Kit are available now through Sensirion's distribution network.
