Littelfuse Introduces IXD704 Dual-Channel Gate Drivers with 2 ns Delay Matching

The new 4 A low-side MOSFET and IGBT drivers offer faster switching, additional undervoltage protection and a smaller DFN package option.

1.pngLittelfuse has introduced the IXD704 family of non-isolated, dual-channel 4 A low-side gate drivers for MOSFETs and IGBTs. Building on the existing IXD604 series, the new devices offer tighter channel timing, faster switching and additional protection features for high-frequency power applications.

The IXD704 provides 2 ns typical propagation-delay matching between channels, helping reduce timing differences when driving paralleled MOSFETs or IGBTs. The drivers also support 4 A peak source and sink currents per channel, increasing to 8 A when the outputs are connected in parallel.

Faster Switching and Channel Timing

The IXD704 has a typical rise time of 9 ns and fall time of 8 ns, supporting high-frequency switching in power conversion and control circuits. A new 50 ns minimum input pulse-width filter rejects short input signals that could otherwise cause unintended switching.

Littelfuse has also incorporated circuitry to prevent simultaneous conduction of the driver's internal high-side and low-side output transistors during switching transitions. The output stage is protected against latch-up from reverse-bias current stress of up to ±4 A.

UVLO Protection and Package Options

The IXD704 introduces two undervoltage lockout (UVLO) threshold variants, with nominal thresholds of 12 V and 9 V for the standard and xA versions respectively. The devices operate from a 14 V to 35 V supply and are available in four gate-drive configurations: dual non-inverting, dual non-inverting with independent enable pins, dual inverting, and mixed inverting/non-inverting.

Each configuration is offered in a standard 8-pin SOIC or thermally enhanced SOIC package with exposed pad. The dual non-inverting version with independent enable pins is also available in an 8-pin DFN package with exposed pad, which is 20% smaller than the equivalent IXD604 DFN package.

The IXD704 is intended for industrial controls, switch-mode power supplies, DC-DC converters, motor controllers, power inverters, Class-D amplifiers and pulse-transformer drivers.

The new gate drivers are available in tape-and-reel packaging, with samples available to request through authorized Littelfuse distributors.

Technology Overview

The Littelfuse IXD704 is a family of non-isolated, dual-channel low-side MOSFET and IGBT gate drivers with 4 A peak source and sink current per channel. The devices provide 2 ns typical propagation-delay matching, 9 ns rise time, 8 ns fall time and a 50 ns minimum input pulse-width filter. Available with 9 V or 12 V nominal undervoltage lockout thresholds, the IXD704 supports four output configurations and SOIC or DFN packages.

FAQs

What improvements does the IXD704 offer over the IXD604?

The IXD704 introduces 2 ns typical propagation-delay matching, faster 9 ns rise and 8 ns fall times, a 50 ns minimum input pulse-width filter and two UVLO threshold variants. Its DFN package option is also 20% smaller than the equivalent IXD604 package.

Can the IXD704 drive multiple MOSFETs or IGBTs?

Yes. The IXD704 has two output channels rated for 4 A peak source and sink current each. The outputs can be connected in parallel to deliver up to 8 A, with 2 ns typical propagation-delay matching between channels.

What gate-drive configurations are available?

The IXD704 is available in four configurations: dual non-inverting, dual non-inverting with independent enable pins, dual inverting, and mixed inverting/non-inverting. Devices are offered in SOIC packages, with a DFN option for the independent-enable configuration.
