KYOCERA AVX has introduced a new series of 3dB, 90° hybrid couplers designed to support the growing demand for high-frequency wireless systems across industrial, automotive, telecom, and telemetry applications.
The DB0402 series hybrid couplers use integrated thin film (ITF) multilayer technology to deliver consistent, repeatable RF performance in a footprint of just 1.02 x 0.58 x 0.36mm. As high-frequency systems become smaller and more power-dense, these miniature couplers help engineers meet RF performance goals without sacrificing board space or reliability.
Hybrid couplers are four-port directional devices that split input signals into two outputs with equal amplitude and a 90° phase shift. They are widely used in RF front ends, MIMO antenna systems, signal distribution, and performance monitoring, often supporting signal injection or measurement without disturbing the original transmission path.
Frequency range: 3.0 to 4.1GHz
High power handling: 1W continuous
Low insertion loss: -0.5dB typical (max -0.8dB)
High isolation and exceptional amplitude/phase balance
(0.6dB typical, 1.2dB max / 2° typical, 5° max)
Stable performance from –40°C to +85°C
50Ω impedance
High repeatability across parts and production lots
Low parasitics, good linearity, and effective heat dissipation
The components are compatible with reflow, wave, vapor phase, and manual soldering, using lead-free nickel terminations that support automated assembly. Supplied on tape and reel, the DB0402 couplers are built in ISO 9001-certified facilities, compliant with RoHS and IATF standards.
The series is currently offered in four performance bands, tuned for typical operation at 3,200, 3,500, 3,700, and 3,800MHz. Applications include:
4G, 5G, and future 6G infrastructure
Satellite TV receivers and GPS
Wireless LANs and mobile comms system
RF balanced amplifiers and signal routing
Heavy-duty radios and vehicle location systems
As wireless technology continues to evolve, particularly in millimetre-wave and MIMO systems, components like the DB0402 hybrid coupler are key enablers. “The rapid expansion of high-frequency wireless systems demands equally advanced RF components,” said Mohammed Abu-Naim, RF Product Manager at KYOCERA AVX – North America. “These couplers deliver the accuracy, compactness, and power handling performance that designers need to move quickly in today’s fast-changing RF landscape.”
