Shaping the Next Wave of ECU Development

Infineon Technologies has unveiled a new software portfolio for its AURIX™ TC4x microcontrollers, created to tackle the growing complexity of modern automotive electronics. As cars become more automated and software-heavy, developers are under pressure to deliver safety-critical systems that meet strict standards without adding years of validation work. Infineon’s approach is to provide production-ready drivers and libraries that take care of the groundwork so engineers can focus on higher-level features.

What Engineers Get Out of It

The release includes AUTOSAR MCAL drivers with ASIL D compliance, a safety library called SafeTlib, a filter chain for the Converter DSP, and additional device drivers for high-speed data routing. Together, these cover areas that typically consume a large share of project time.

For example, SafeTlib gives developers ready-made building blocks for watchdog handling and self-tests, while the DSP library shifts signal post-processing off the TriCore CPU to improve performance. The AUTOSAR drivers are designed for multicore systems and support partitioning for safety-related tasks. Instead of writing and justifying each of these components from scratch, teams can build on software that is already certified.

Certified for Safety and Security

The package has been assessed against ASPICE 4.0, ISO 26262:2018 at ASIL D, and ISO 21434 for cybersecurity. It also reached ASPICE Level 3, which indicates that Infineon’s development processes are formally managed and repeatable. For carmakers and Tier 1 suppliers, that reduces the audit burden and strengthens the case for integrating AURIX MCUs into safety-critical platforms.

Applications in Practice

Infineon is positioning the portfolio for electronic control units in ADAS, electrified powertrains, and general vehicle control. The idea is that developers can rely on pre-qualified libraries for core safety services while focusing on system-level features such as sensor fusion or secure communication. Combined with Infineon’s partner ecosystem, the TC4x family is being set up to support workloads that now include AI-assisted driving functions and complex connectivity.

Availability

The MCAL drivers, SafeTlib, and DSP libraries for AURIX TC4Dx are available today, with additional partner stacks expanding the range of supported use cases.
