Silicon Labs Series 3 SoCs Bring PSA Level 4 Security and Matter-Certified Platform Support

Uploaded image As IoT devices grow more complex, developers are facing two linked challenges: how to build systems that are secure enough to withstand real-world attacks, and how to bring products to market quickly in ecosystems like Matter. Silicon Labs is addressing both with the release of its Series 3 platform and the first SixG301 family SoCs.

What Silicon Labs Announced

At its Works With Summit, the company confirmed the general availability of the SiMG301 and SiBG301 SoCs. These are the first members of the SixG301 line, designed to extend the company’s Series 2 platform with more compute headroom, stronger integration, and higher levels of security. Both devices are built on a 22 nm process and use a multicore architecture that separates wireless, application, and security tasks.

The SiMG301 is a multiprotocol device supporting Zigbee, Bluetooth LE, and Matter over Thread, with features such as an integrated LED pre-driver for cost- and space-efficient smart lighting designs. The SiBG301 is tailored for Bluetooth LE, offering an upgrade path for developers currently using Series 2 designs. Both support up to 4 MB of Flash and 512 kB of RAM, providing capacity for expanding protocol stacks and edge workloads.

Matter Compliant Platform Certification

One of the most significant aspects of the announcement is that the SiMG301 is among the first SoCs to be included in the Connectivity Standards Alliance’s Matter Compliant Platform Certification program. By starting from a certified platform, developers inherit pretested commissioning, networking, and security features, reducing the number of tests needed for end-product certification. This helps cut costs and development time for Matter-based devices such as switches, sensors, and controllers.

Industry-Leading Security

Security is the second major highlight. The SixG301 family debuts with Secure Vault built to PSA Level 4, the highest certification currently available under the PSA Certified scheme. This level covers resistance against advanced physical attacks, including fault injection and side-channel analysis, and helps device makers meet emerging global regulations such as the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act.

For products expected to stay in the field for years, this certification offers a stronger assurance of protection and makes it easier for developers to meet compliance requirements while maintaining long-term security.
