Toshiba Starts Sampling TXZ+ M4H Microcontrollers for System Control

Uploaded image Toshiba Electronics Europe has started shipping engineering samples of the TXZ+ Family Entry-Class M4H Group, a new set of Arm Cortex-M4 microcontrollers for small-scale system control in consumer products and industrial equipment. The first devices in the group are the TMPM4H4FYUG, TMPM4H2FYDUG, and TMPM4H1FYUG, with applications listed for air conditioners, washing machines, multifunction printers, and factory automation systems.

The M4H Group sits in Toshiba’s TXZ+ entry-class microcontroller range and is built around a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M4 core. The core includes a floating-point unit and memory protection unit, with operation at up to 120MHz. Each device integrates 256KByte of code flash memory and 18KByte of RAM.

Entry-Class Cortex-M4 Devices

Toshiba describes the M4H Group as an entry-level option for control logic, interface processing, and timing-control functions. The parts are aimed at systems where the controller needs to handle basic real-time operation without moving into a larger MCU class.

The three devices are offered in different LQFP package formats. TMPM4H4FYUG is supplied in a 0.5mm pitch LQFP64 package, TMPM4H2FYDUG is supplied in a 0.5mm pitch LQFP48 package, and TMPM4H1FYUG is supplied in a 0.8mm pitch LQFP44 package.

5V Operation and Integrated Peripherals

The M4H products support a supply voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V, which keeps them usable in equipment based around 5V power rails. Toshiba has also integrated a 10MHz high-speed oscillator with ±1% accuracy. Peripheral functions include a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter, timers, UART, SPI, I²C, and DMA. Toshiba has also included an advanced programmable motor driver, or A-PMD, for brushless DC motor control.

This gives the devices a mix of analog input, serial communication, timing, data transfer, and motor-control functions for small system-control designs.

Evaluation and Software Support

Toshiba is supporting the M4H Group with engineering samples and development environments. The company is also providing starter kits, sample software, CMSIS-compliant drivers, and user environments for major integrated development environments.

The company states that it will continue expanding documentation, enablement resources, and its wider microcontroller lineup.
