Littelfuse has introduced the SCD and SCP Series solid-state contactors, expanding its industrial switching portfolio with eight configurations for single- and three-phase heating and motor control applications.
The new contactors use solid-state switching rather than mechanical contacts, removing the mechanical wear associated with conventional contactors. Zero-cross switching is used to minimize electrical noise and voltage transients when controlling AC loads, while integrated heatsinking addresses thermal management within the contactor assembly.
Littelfuse offers both DIN-rail SCD models and panel-mount SCP versions, with one-, two- and three-pole switching configurations available.
Solid-State Switching for Heating and Motor Loads
The SCD and SCP families cover different switching requirements rather than using a single contactor configuration across the range.
One-pole SCD1 and SCP1 devices are available for single-phase applications, while SCD2 and SCP2 models provide two-pole switching. Three-pole SCD3 and SCP3 versions extend the range to three-phase systems, and Littelfuse also offers the panel-mounted SCP3-CC...R specifically for reversing applications.
With no mechanical contacts to wear during operation, the contactors are intended for equipment that undergoes frequent switching over its operating life. Littelfuse also uses zero-cross switching, where switching takes place around the AC waveform's zero-voltage crossing to reduce the electrical noise and voltage transients associated with switching the load.
DIN-Rail and Panel-Mount Options
The SCD Series is designed for DIN-rail installation, while SCP models provide an alternative for panel mounting. Integrated heatsinking reduces the number of separate components required when installing the solid-state switching device and managing the heat it generates. Littelfuse is targeting the contactors at industrial heating and motor control equipment, including reflow and wave soldering ovens, drying and curing systems, environmental test chambers and industrial packaging machinery.
Other applications include injection molding, thermoforming and extrusion equipment, where the new contactors can be used to switch heating or motor loads.
