Melexis Launches Isolated Hall Current Sensors for Measurements up to 100 A



Uploaded image Melexis has introduced the MLX91224 and MLX91225 isolated current sensors for high-voltage automotive and industrial systems, with integrated current measurement up to 100 ARMS.

The new devices combine the current conductor, Hall sensing elements, signal conditioning and isolation within the package. Current flows directly through a low-impedance lead frame, while two sets of Hall plates differentially measure the magnetic flux generated by the current.

Using differential sensing minimizes the influence of external magnetic fields, while the sensors produce a high-speed linear analog output proportional to the measured current. Depending on the package, the platform supports working voltages up to 1640 VRMS.

Three Packages Cover Measurements up to 100 ARMS

Melexis offers the MLX91224 and MLX91225 in DE, DG and DH packages to address different current, isolation and surge-current requirements.

The compact DE version uses a SOIC6FL package and supports continuous operating current up to 50 ARMS, together with overcurrent detection. The DG version uses a wider SOIC16W package, increasing creepage and clearance while supporting a similar continuous current range.

For higher-current systems, the DH version uses a SOIC12W FL package and increases continuous operating current capability to 100 ARMS. Melexis specifies surge-current capability up to ±29 kA for this version.

3.3 V and 5 V Current Sensing

The MLX91224 is designed for systems using a 5 V supply, while the MLX91225 operates from 3.3 V. Both devices support AC and DC current measurement, bipolar or unipolar sensing, and ratiometric or fixed-output configurations.

A dedicated overcurrent detection pin is also included. Detection thresholds can be set internally or externally through the OCD-TH pin, giving designers an additional output for protection and current-monitoring functions. For automotive designs, the platform is ASIL B ready and has been developed as an ISO 26262 Safety Element out of Context. The sensors operate across an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +150°C.

Melexis is targeting the MLX91224 and MLX91225 at EV powertrains, electric drives, DC-DC converters, AC and DC chargers, solar systems, power supplies and data center power distribution, among other high-voltage current measurement applications.

The MLX91224 and MLX91225 are available now in all three package options.
