Toshiba Introduces CTZ Zener Diodes in Compact SOD-882 Package

The new series includes 20 protection Zener diodes with voltages from 5.6 V to 36 V, occupying approximately 81% less PCB area than Toshiba's SOD-323 package.

Toshiba Electronics Europe has expanded its range of protection Zener diodes with the introduction of the CTZ series, a family of 20 devices supplied in a compact SOD-882 (CST2) package. The new series is suitable for industrial and consumer equipment, including power supplies, office automation equipment and household appliances.

Unlike electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection diodes, which are intended primarily for short transient events, protection Zener diodes clamp longer-duration overvoltage conditions with characteristics close to DC.

Zener Voltages from 5.6 V to 36 V

The CTZ series extends Toshiba's protection diode portfolio with 20 devices offering standard E24 Zener voltages from 5.6 V to 36 V. The range allows designers to select an appropriate Zener voltage for power supply and signal line protection applications, including low-voltage logic rails and 12 V or 24 V industrial power supplies.

Each device is housed in a SOD-882 (CST2) package measuring 1.0 × 0.6 × 0.38 mm (typ.). Compared with Toshiba's SOD-323 (USC) package, the new package occupies approximately 81% less PCB mounting area.

The smaller package provides an additional option for overvoltage protection in equipment where board space is limited, without reducing the range of nominal Zener voltages available.
