TDK Launches Industry’s Highest-Capacitance 100 V MLCC in 1608 Size

TDK launches a 1 µF, 100 V MLCC in 1608 size, the industry’s highest capacitance for this spec, supporting BOM reduction in 48 V and industrial systems.

TDK has expanded its C series of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) with a new product that delivers 1 µF capacitance at 100 V in the compact 1608 case size (1.6 x 0.8 x 0.8 mm). According to TDK, this is the highest-capacitance 100 V MLCC available in this form factor with X7R temperature characteristics as of June 2025. The new component, part number C1608X7R2A105K080AC, addresses growing demand for compact, high-performance capacitors in 48 V systems used across industrial, data centre, and energy storage applications. As these systems become more common, engineers face increasing pressure to reduce board size, improve power integrity, and simplify layouts — all while maintaining long-term reliability. What sets this MLCC apart is its ability to deliver ten times the capacitance of conventional 100 V MLCCs in the same footprint. This performance is made possible by optimised ceramic material composition and internal electrode design. With 1 µF in a single 1608 package, designers can reduce the number of capacitors used per design, streamline manufacturing, and reclaim valuable PCB space. The component uses an X7R dielectric, which ensures stable capacitance over a temperature range of –55 °C to +125 °C. This makes it suitable for both commercial and industrial environments where thermal conditions may vary significantly. Key features:

  • Rated for 100 V, 1 µF, X7R
  • Industry’s highest capacitance in 1608 case size
  • Supports 48 V system designs
  • Enables BOM reduction and miniaturisation

The launch forms part of TDK’s wider strategy to support next-generation electronics through advances in materials science and miniaturisation, particularly in sectors like AI infrastructure, automation, and renewable energy.
