Würth Elektronik Introduces New Coaxial Connectors for 50-Ω Cable Applications

Würth Elektronik introduces compact SMA, SMB, MCX, and MMCX coaxial cable connectors with gold contacts and IP67 options for RF applications.

Würth Elektronik has added four new coaxial connectors to its expanding RF interconnect portfolio, designed for 50-ohm cables in sizes 1.13, 1.32, and 1.37 mm. The new parts covering the SMA, SMB, MCX, and MMCXseries are built for compact applications where reliable high-frequency signal transmission is essential.

Targeting everything from GPS modules and IoT nodes to test benches and wireless systems, these connectors have been engineered with both performance and practicality in mind. They feature gold-plated contacts to ensure conductivity and corrosion resistance, and each one passes a 48-hour salt spray test, making them suitable for harsher environments where reliability matters. Importantly, the components are available directly from stock with no minimum order quantity, allowing design engineers to prototype and scale without procurement friction.

WR-SMA: Compact and Sealed

The WR-SMA Right Angle Bulkhead Jack Cable Connector supports up to 6 GHz and features a space-saving right-angle design. It's assembled via crimping and is also offered in an IP67-rated version, providing dust and moisture protection for outdoor or sealed enclosures.

WR-SMB: Designed for Repeat Mating

For setups that require frequent plugging and unplugging—such as test systems—the WR-SMB Straight Plug Cable Connector offers a durable snap-lock design and frequency handling up to 4 GHz. It’s similar in size to SMA connectors but simpler to use in repetitive test setups.

WR-MCX: Flexible Orientation

The WR-MCX connectors come in both straight and right-angle formats and operate at up to 6 GHz. Their snap-lock coupling and rotatable right-angle design make them particularly useful in dense assemblies where cable routing may need adjusting post-install. With a 4.5 mm outer diameter and a 500-cycle mating rating, these connectors strike a practical balance between footprint and endurance.

WR-MMCX: Smallest in the Line-Up

If size is the constraint, the WR-MMCX connectors step in with a slim 3.5 mm diameter and reduced mating force. Still rated for up to 6 GHz, they’re an ideal match for miniature wireless devices, GPS receivers, and compact IoT boards where every millimetre counts.

Across the board, Würth Elektronik’s new RF additions reflect a clear understanding of what designers are up against—tight spaces, high signal integrity demands, and the need for components that are both reliable and available. With no MOQ and robust physical construction, these connectors help smooth the path from prototype to production.
