Diodes DPC851 Photocouplers Offer 350V Isolation for Appliances and Power Systems

Uploaded image

Diodes Incorporated has released the DPC851 series, a new line of photocouplers designed to handle 350V on the transistor side. These devices are made for high-voltage environments where control signals need to stay safely separated from power circuitry. Typical use cases include motor inverters, appliances, and industrial power systems.

Each part contains an infrared LED and a phototransistor, providing 5,000Vrms of isolation between input and output. That barrier helps protect low-voltage logic from transients or ground shifts on the high side. The minimum current transfer ratio (CTR) is 50%, and performance stays consistent between –55°C and +110°C, which covers most appliance and embedded environments.

The series comes in four package types:

  • DIP-4 (DPC851D)

  • Miniature DIP-4 (DPC851W)

  • SL-4 Surface Mount (DPC851S)

  • SLM-4 Miniature Surface Mount (DPC851L)

All versions are MSL-1 moisture rated and come in either tube or reel packaging depending on the form factor. Several models are also certified to VDE EN IEC 60747-5-5, and these are marked with a “-V” suffix. The full range is compliant with UL1577 and CQC 4943.1-2022 standards.

For switching applications, the DPC851’s low coupling capacitance of 0.6pF at 1MHz helps keep signals clean. That makes it a good fit for fast control loops, LED drivers, and other circuits where timing matters.

Applications include:

  • AC and BLDC motor drives

  • Fridges, washing machines, and HVAC systems

  • LED lighting systems

  • EV charging modules

  • Server power and telecom equipment

  • Programmable logic controllers

Summary

The DPC851 series offers engineers a compact, certified solution for isolated signal paths where high voltage, heat, and reliability are all key considerations.
