ABLIC 48V Automotive LDO Cuts Standby Current to 2.0µA

ABLIC’s S-19230/1 automotive LDO regulator supports 48V, 24V, and 12V batteries, combining ultra-low 2.0µA current with built-in protection for next-gen vehicles.

Uploaded imageModern vehicles rely on more sensors, ECUs, and infotainment units than ever before. To meet these rising demands, carmakers are moving from 12V auxiliary batteries to 48V systems that deliver the same power at lower current. This change allows thinner wiring, lighter harnesses, and better overall efficiency.

ABLIC, a MinebeaMitsumi company, has introduced the S-19230/1 series to match these requirements. The regulator accepts input voltages up to 80V and supports 48V, 24V, and 12V auxiliary batteries, giving engineers flexibility across platforms.

Focus On Standby Efficiency

One of the most striking features is its 2.0µA operating current, among the lowest available for automotive LDOs. This matters because many devices such as CAN or LIN transceivers and distributed sensors remain powered even when a car is idle. By trimming standby losses, the regulator supports tighter efficiency goals in both hybrid and electric vehicles.

Built-In Safety Functions

The S-19230/1 is also the first ABLIC regulator to include an open-loop protection circuit. If the feedback path to the external resistor is broken, the output is capped to a safe level. In practice, this removes the need for additional protection components, saving PCB space and simplifying design work.

Additional features include overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, and ON/OFF control. With these protections in place, the device is positioned for AEC-Q100 qualification and PPAP compliance, making it suitable for demanding automotive environments.

Technical Overview

The S-19230 variant delivers up to 100mA, while the S-19231 reaches 200mA. Fixed output options include 1.8V, 3.0V, 3.3V, and 5.0V, with adjustable outputs available up to 12V. Operating temperature spans −40°C to +125°C, and package choices cover TO-252-5S(A), HSOP-8A, and HTMSOP-8.

Designed For Automotive Electronics

These regulators are aimed at powering sensors, CAN and LIN transceivers, and electronic modules across control, drivetrain, and safety systems. By combining very low current consumption with integrated protection, the S-19230/1 series provides engineers with a compact and reliable option for next-generation vehicles.
