Nisshinbo Micro Devices Launches Quad-Channel PMIC to Simplify Automotive Camera Designs

Nisshinbo Micro Devices introduces the NP8700, a four-channel power management IC that integrates buck and LDO regulators to shrink automotive camera designs and reduce EMI.

Uploaded image Nisshinbo Micro Devices has released the NP8700 series, a quad-channel combination regulator that integrates four power rails in one 3.4 × 2.6 mm package. Designed for automotive camera modules, the device helps engineers cut board size and reduce external components while maintaining stable, low-noise power delivery.

As the number of cameras in vehicles continues to rise, supporting systems such as driver monitoring, cabin sensing, gesture control and rear-seat reminders—suppliers are under pressure to shrink module size. Cameras mounted in mirrors, headliners or dashboards leave little room for discrete regulators. The NP8700 addresses that challenge by combining all required supply rails for CMOS sensors and peripheral logic into a single IC.

Four Regulators, One Device

The NP8700 integrates:

  • Channel 1: 20 V input, 1.2 A synchronous buck converter for medium-voltage domains
  • Channel 2: 5.5 V input, 1.0 A synchronous buck converter
  • Channel 3: Selectable regulator operating as either a 1.0 A buck converter or a 0.2 A LDO
  • Channel 4: 0.2 A LDO that can also act as a high-side switch

This configuration supports both sensor and logic rails while giving designers flexibility to trade efficiency for ultra-low noise.

Noise Reduction and System Stability

Two features set the NP8700 apart. Anti-phase control shifts the switching phases of Channels 2 and 3 relative to Channel 1, reducing ripple overlap. Meanwhile, spread-spectrum frequency modulation spreads switching noise across a wider band, lowering EMI and helping preserve camera image quality. Together they improve system stability and simplify compliance with automotive EMC standards.

The device also includes built-in sequencing and a power-good signal, removing the need for separate reset ICs. With selectable undervoltage lockout levels and programmable protection modes, the NP8700 can be tuned for a wide range of architectures.

Smaller, Simpler, and More Capable

Compared to the earlier NJW4750, the new regulator replaces diode rectification with synchronous rectification, cutting component count and improving efficiency. Output current capability has been increased across channels, and EMI performance has been improved through the addition of spread-spectrum control.

Housed in a QFN2634-26-NC package measuring just 3.4 × 2.6 × 0.75 mm, the NP8700 achieves a high level of integration suitable for tight automotive enclosures.

Applications and Availability

The NP8700 is aimed at automotive camera modules, including driver monitoring systems, surround-view, and cabin sensing. It is available for sampling at a reference price of JPY 275 per unit (for 1 000-piece orders). Mass production is scheduled at one million units per month.
