Microchip Launches MCP Server to Connect AI Platforms with Verified Product Data

Microchip’s MCP Server connects AI tools directly to verified datasheets, pricing, and inventory data, improving accuracy and speed for design engineers.

Uploaded image Artificial intelligence is starting to reshape the way engineers work. Every design stage, from selecting components to checking lead times, now leans on tools that can process information faster than people can read it. What these tools still lack is reliable, up-to-date data. To close that gap, Microchip Technology has introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, a platform that lets AI systems access verified product information straight from the source.

Giving AI Real Engineering Context

The MCP Server acts as a link between Microchip’s databases and the AI assistants, copilots, or chat tools engineers already use. Instead of opening browser tabs or searching manually through distributor pages, users can ask for details in plain language. The system sends back structured information, device specs, electrical limits, prices, stock, and lead times, taken directly from Microchip’s public catalogue.

It’s built on the streamable HTTP framework used by the wider Model Context Protocol. That approach allows data to arrive quickly and in a format most AI platforms can understand. Engineers can feed the results straight into coding environments, design software, or internal documentation tools without extra conversion steps.

Because every response comes directly from Microchip, there’s no guessing whether a figure is current or pulled from an outdated datasheet. The idea is simple: give AI the same trusted information that engineers rely on, so it can produce answers that are accurate the first time.

Reducing Manual Checks

Rich Simoncic, Microchip’s Chief Operating Officer, said the company wants AI to be a practical part of everyday engineering. Verified data at the point of design can remove hours of manual cross-checking and prevent mistakes that come from inconsistent information.

In a typical workflow, an AI assistant connected to the MCP Server could confirm voltage ratings, suggest part numbers, or highlight supply constraints while the engineer is still writing code or editing a schematic. It turns data look-ups into a background task rather than a daily interruption.

Open Access for Developers

The MCP Server is free to use and open to anyone. Any AI platform that supports standard web calls can connect. Developers can start integrating Microchip’s endpoints immediately to build their own smart assistants or enhance internal knowledge systems.

By embedding verified data into the same tools engineers already use, Microchip is making AI more useful and less speculative. The MCP Server shows how accurate data and intelligent systems can work together to shorten design cycles and boost confidence in every project.
