Rohde & Schwarz Expands Mobile Network Testing with Super Wideband TSMS8 Scanner

The R&S TSMS8 from Rohde & Schwarz delivers 10 MHz – 8.5 GHz coverage and 400 MHz bandwidth, enabling faster 5G drive testing and early 6G readiness.

Uploaded image Rohde & Schwarz has launched the R&S TSMS8, a super-wideband mobile network scanner designed to redefine how operators measure and optimise next-generation networks. Covering frequencies from 10 MHz to 8.5 GHz, and up to 53 GHz when paired with the TSMS53DC downconverter, the new system captures the full breadth of current and emerging cellular bands in a single platform.

The TSMS8 integrates a 400 MHz front-end bandwidth with industry-leading scanning speed, allowing significantly more data to be collected within the same drive test route. That translates directly to fewer re-drives, faster verification and lower operational cost, a meaningful improvement for teams managing dense or geographically wide 5G deployments.

Broad Spectrum Coverage and Multi-Technology Support

By design, the TSMS8 supports all major cellular technologies, from GSM through LTE to 5G NR. Its ability to measure across both sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequencies enables consistent performance evaluation across diverse environments, from city cores to rural coverage zones. When extended with the TSMS53DC downconverter, the scanner reaches into the 53 GHz range to evaluate 5G FR2 and early 6G research bands.

Axel Hansmann, Vice President of the Mobile Network Testing division at Rohde & Schwarz, described the release as a milestone, “The R&S TSMS8 is a game-changer, offering unmatched speed, breadth of coverage and a future-proof platform for technologies like 6G. It empowers our customers to optimise their networks more effectively than ever before.”

Addressing the Challenges of Modern Network Analysis

Modern networks operate across fragmented bands and variable propagation conditions. The TSMS8’s ability to span low-frequency mission-critical services such as TETRA and P25 alongside emerging above-6 GHz bands (including n104) helps consolidate testing workflows that previously required multiple instruments.

Its IQ streaming capabilities, compact design and broad dynamic range also open new opportunities beyond classical drive-test work. Engineers can apply it in drone detection, signal intelligence and RF environment mapping, all within a portable form factor suitable for both lab and field use.

A Platform Built for the Next Generation

With the TSMS8, Rohde & Schwarz extends its track record of supporting regulators, carriers and government users with high-precision measurement solutions. The scanner complements recent additions like the R&S LCM network performance probe and continues the company’s push toward instrumentation ready for 6G development.
