RECOM’s RPMVH Buck Modules Bring High Voltage Flexibility To Compact Designs

RECOM’s RPMVH 0.5 A buck modules support inputs up to 115 VDC and deliver regulated low voltage rails with strong thermal stability and Class B EMI performance, making them suitable for harsh industrial and high voltage environments.

Uploaded image Designers working in high voltage environments often struggle to find compact power modules that tolerate wide input swings without compromising thermal stability. Systems that live on battery stacks, long cable runs, or industrial buses rarely behave predictably, and a regulator that copes with those conditions can remove a lot of fragile support circuitry. RECOM’s new RPMVH series lands in that space with a small footprint and an input ceiling that reaches well beyond most non-isolated modules.

High Voltage Headroom For Demanding Environments

A common challenge in mixed voltage systems is managing unpredictable input rails. Transients, regenerative events and supply variations can push converters close to their limits. The RPMVH modules are designed to absorb that behaviour, supporting inputs up to 115 VDC while delivering regulated outputs at 3.3, 5, 12 or 24 VDC. The 0.5 A output rating might seem modest on paper, but in practice it targets control logic, sensing, communications and auxiliary loads that must remain stable even when the main system rail drifts. This matters because those subsystems often determine whether a piece of equipment stays operational during supply disturbances.

Thermal Performance In A Compact Package

Maintaining efficiency in small modules becomes harder as voltage rises, yet RECOM manages up to 90 percent efficiency within a footprint of only 12.19 by 12.19 mm. The package design supports full power operation at temperatures that reach 100°C, and derating extends operation to 120°C. That thermal margin is relevant in enclosed panels or tightly packed enclosures where airflow is limited. One detail worth noting is the six sided shielding, which helps keep radiated noise contained and improves heat spreading across the LGA package. For engineers, the takeaway is that the module behaves predictably in environments where conventional open frame converters often drift thermally.

Electrical Behavior And System-Level Features

The RPMVH family includes trimmable outputs, sequencing support, on and off control, and power good signalling. Those features are useful in embedded and industrial control systems where power rails must come up in order or where downstream loads expect a known supply profile. Protections for over temperature, over current and short circuit events add another layer of resilience. Conducted emissions performance is also a practical advantage. With a simple external filter, the modules meet EN 55032 Class B requirements, removing the need for extensive EMI mitigation that can eat into space on dense PCBs.

Integration Considerations Across Wide Input Ranges

Because the device is non isolated, layout decisions carry the usual constraints. Short return paths, controlled switching loops and thermal contact to copper areas remain important. The ability to trim the output provides flexibility during bring up when tolerances in downstream rails need fine tuning. In real systems, this helps reduce the number of regulator variants needed across different product lines. The module’s DOSA compatible footprint also makes it a drop in choice for designs already committed to that mechanical format, which simplifies upgrades when moving from lower voltage regulators.

A Broader Shift Toward Rugged High Input Regulators

High input buck modules have become more relevant as industrial and transportation systems migrate toward higher bus voltages. Energy storage, robotics and distributed control systems all face supply conditions that fluctuate throughout a machine’s operating cycle. The RPMVH series aligns with that trend by offering the voltage tolerance and thermal behaviour needed for next generation architectures without inflating board area. As more designs consolidate auxiliary rails into fewer conversion stages, modules like these will give engineers a stable anchor point for low voltage logic across wide operating ranges.
