TE Connectivity Launches Modular MULTIGIG TRX Platform for Rugged Fibre Optic Applications
TE Connectivity has launched its MULTIGIG TRX platform, a modular fibre optic transceiver system for aerospace, defence, and marine markets. Featuring up to 12 hot-swappable 10 Gbps transceivers, it enables faster data, simplified upgrades, and minimal downtime. Qualified to standards like DO-160G and MIL-STD-883, the platform offers high-speed connectivity in rugged environments and supports future expansion without reworking the PCB or replacing the full module.
Original source: TE Connectivity – MULTIGIG Transceiver Platform TE Connectivity has launched a new fibre optic transceiver platform designed to tackle the growing need for fast, modular, and rugged data transmission in demanding environments. Unveiled at the Paris Air Show, the MULTIGIG TRX platform brings together performance, flexibility, and serviceability in a compact footprint aimed at aerospace, defence, and marine markets. What makes this platform interesting isn’t just its spec sheet, but the modular design behind it. Built around TE’s Light Engine Platform, the TRX houses up to 12 optical transceivers, each capable of 10 Gbps. These chiclet-style transceivers are slot-loaded into a press-fit housing using the MULTIGIG RT PCB interface. If a cable or transceiver fails, it can be swapped out without removing the full unit. That’s a major win in environments where downtime isn't an option. The platform supports data rates from 20 Mbps to 10 Gbps, operates at 850 nm, and is qualified against aerospace and military standards like DO-160G, VITA 46/47, MIL-STD-883, and IEEE 10G Base-SR. From avionics and radar systems to in-flight entertainment and secure comms, TE is positioning this as a flexible foundation for fibre-heavy applications. TE’s Mark Benton explained that this approach meets the evolving needs of modular, upgradeable systems. With the MULTIGIG TRX, designers no longer have to rip out an entire board or connector to make upgrades or repairs. Anders Thelin added that the platform’s ruggedness and compact footprint make it ideal for space-constrained applications without sacrificing reliability. In a world where fibre optic systems are expected to perform reliably across wide temperature ranges and high-vibration environments, TE’s latest platform offers a practical way forward — fast data, simple servicing, and future-proof expansion all built in.
