Diodes Incorporated Launches 60 V Field-Plated Rectifiers for Automotive Power Systems

Diodes Incorporated launches four 60 V field-plated Super Barrier Rectifiers covering 2 A to 8 A, with low forward-voltage and low reverse-leakage options for automotive power circuits.

Uploaded image Diodes Incorporated has introduced four 60 V automotive-qualified Super Barrier Rectifiers (SBRs), giving designers a choice between low forward voltage and low reverse leakage characteristics for power conversion and protection circuits.

The new SBRFP2M60P1Q, SBRFP2M60SAFQ, SBRFP3M60SAFQ and SBRFP8A60P5Q use the company’s field-plated SBR technology and cover current ratings from 2 A to 8 A. They are intended for automotive applications including LED lighting, DC-DC converters, reverse-polarity protection and other power circuits.

Rather than applying the same electrical characteristics across the range, Diodes has split the devices to address different requirements around conduction loss, reverse leakage and current capability.

Low Forward Voltage or Low Reverse Leakage

The SBRFP2M60P1Q and SBRFP8A60P5Q are designed for low forward voltage. The 2 A SBRFP2M60P1Q has a maximum forward voltage of 0.58 V, while the 8 A SBRFP8A60P5Q is specified at a maximum of 0.55 V. Lower forward voltage reduces the voltage dropped across the rectifier while it is conducting, and therefore the associated conduction loss.

The SBRFP2M60SAFQ and SBRFP3M60SAFQ instead target applications where low reverse leakage is important. The 3 A SBRFP3M60SAFQ, for example, has a typical reverse leakage current of 1.2 µA at 25°C.

Diodes also specifies high repetitive avalanche capability and fast reverse recovery across the new devices. The field-plated construction is used to manage the electric field within the rectifier, supporting the combination of forward-voltage, leakage and robustness characteristics offered by the family.

Designed for Automotive Power Circuits

The four rectifiers are qualified to AEC-Q101 and manufactured in IATF 16949-certified facilities for automotive applications.

Package options vary according to the current rating and intended implementation. The new devices are available in the PowerDI123, PowerDI5 and SMAF package formats, giving designers options for different PCB footprints and power requirements.

One application highlighted by Diodes uses the 2 A SBRFP2M60P1Q as the rectifier in an automotive LED DC-DC converter. The devices can also be used in power conversion, reverse-polarity protection and other automotive circuits requiring a 60 V rectifier.

All four 60 V SBR devices are available now.
